Shoulder Parking- American Idol Singer. RIP

Doubt it makes the news but drove by one this morning on I-70 east of Effingham, IL. Truck parked on the shoulder had his trailer peeled open by a second truck that burned to the ground. Guessing the fueled tanks ignited on impact. Highly doubt the driver survived. If I find an article about the wreck I'll post it.

You’re correct. Every shoulder parking accident is preventable .

If the person who slammed into the back of the parked truck was watching where they were going instead of texting and posting on Facebook while driving ….

 

Or if they were awake and alert.

 

could have been fatigued for all sorts of reasons, or just a little tired. Could have been following the red lights in a bit of day dream. I know driving a car I'm far less on the job than when driving truck.

Curious, if your on the shoulder would you not have the hazards on everytime regardless.

 

When I was a kid the first thing my dad explained to me was to keep it on the road, between the lines and nothing stationary on the side of the road will be a problem. Worked for me ever since but today we have a world full of idiots that want to blame everyone else for thier inability to do the right thing, use that common sense and be accountable for thier inability to stay on the road.

 

Slamming into the back of a parked truck is preferable to hitting a animal or debris ?

If you are driving and leave the travel lane and hit something , that’s on you .

Suppose they had struck a dump truck or road construction equipment paving the shoulder?

Is that still the fault of the road construction crew for being on the shoulder and NOT IN the travel lane when they got hit by some idiot that couldn’t be bothered with watching where they were traveling at 98 feet per second ?
