That's a good idea. I'll see if TN will do this. I just keep my paper copy of the CDL in a separate location with my CDL in my wallet. I had to get a passport which is a gold standard for ID. I have pics of every type of my ID stored in case I lose something away from home. Since I have my credit reports frozen I don't worry about ID theft, either.
N.J. gave me Temp. CDL & took my driver's license

I've got no picture id until they mail my new CDL.
It's ok though, I've contacted melton and we postponed my orientation until the next week. By then I should hopefully have gotten it. Thank you!tscottme Thanks this. -
Again different states have different policies, different testing methods also which will change the issue of your CDL.
My understanding testing at the DMV you license can be issued on the spot real ID or not but I have seen times that the person at the computer couldn’t complete the full process but this was before I became a third party tester and had to take all trainees in for thier final test.
Once we became a third party testing facility all new drivers had to wait on the mail. Things may have changed since I last did any testing.
My very last trainee needed his CDL issued so he could leave immediately for a job. He simply waited till everything showed on his drivers report which he checked on the DOT website. Once it showed as a CDL driver he went and took his tanker test, passed it and had a license issued on the spot with the tanker endorsement. He later received his CDL without that endorsement in the mail. I know this person well and it was not a Real ID license. Difference in PA at least for me is that unless I had a new license to issue you I could not take your current license. Also PA does not allow you to drive CDL on the stamped/signed permit after testing. You must have your actual license with your endorsements or have a Properly licensed CDL driver in the passenger seat while you drive.Bizzarrogeorge Thanks this. -

As the ‘producing a new cdl on the spot’ does not work in TX, not all testing centers have the equipment on location to manufacture the cdl while you are standing there.
Bizzarrogeorge Thanks this. -

Update: I have had no issues, got my hard copy CDL while at orientation at Melton. Finished my first two weeks with my Mentor, and tomorrow begins my last week prior to being assigned my own truck. My trainer, Rob, is a hard charging seasoned trucker who has more knowledge than he could ever impart to us new guys, but that doesn't stop him from teaching every scrap of info he can, drawing upon his career experiences to really drive the lessons home. Having a blast at Melton and I am thankful for this opportunity for a great career!ncmickey and MartinFromBC Thank this.

Do you not have several other pieces of photo ID.
Medical care card, passport, security clearance, and more.
I have pieces of photo ID. -
Why did they take your DL? You need that WITH the Permit? I guess it IS NJ though
