68 reminds me of the Grant's Pass stretch of I-5 on Oregon

    MD-135 E/B going into Luke?

I’m sure @OLDSKOOLERnWV knows that spot well. There’s been many that gave up the ghost into the side of the mountain that awaits you at the bottom there.

Not not 135. Although I used to pick up paper rolls from the mill in Luke. Took 135 then hook up to 50 west towards Columbus, OH.
Fun ride in my cab over days.

Not sure but maybe it was going east into Keysers Ridge. Did the 2 lane highway split there? 40 and 48? It's been over 40 years and it doesn't even look the same on a map

IIRC, 48 was supposed to be the freeway, and 40 just ran concurrent with it out to exit 14 where you could get off and head towards Uniontown.

I-68 in the hillbilly has a special place in my heart. One of my cousins has been doing a lot of genealogy research on our common grandparent's families. She has uncovered several generations of family that lived, died, and were buried all along that area. So it would seem, my fathers maternal grandparents were both born in West Virginia in the latter part of the 1800s. Married there and moved to Texas. My paternal grandmother was their first child. What's so interesting is to cross that line back into Maryland and this is where Keri's family is. My cousin and her husband are flying here next summer and we are going to take a drive there to see if we can find some of the graves. On the topic of those mtns. Gosh, I always hated having to drive across there in a heavy truck.

WV 7 was probably the worst road I've driven on. Not fun at all and that was in the day time.

Just wait till winter when all those hills and curves have ice and snow on them. That's when the real fun begins.

I spent a lot of time on that road pulling frack pumps. It was fun. 7 was childs play compared to the side roads we had to take up the mountains to the pads.
