Oh really? Did they merge or did knight outright buy them? I am only asking because each company called me individually as separate entities. If they are one and the same, then there would be no reason not to take the knight position if it gets fully offered. The recruiter figured out I had prior driving experience after about 3 minuets of our conversation, counted my VA as current work history, and promised to keep in touch while I was getting my credentials back. She sounded pretty enthusiastic once she knew the whole deal. I have also never had an offer to speak to a specific account manager/FM/DM prior to being hired on either so not sure if that is a positive indication or not. Oh and truly I deeply appreciate the responses you have given, not only to me but in the other threads as well. It is a wealth of wisdom and knowledge that really is invaluable, thank you falls well short of what should be said to you but it's all I got.

Separate companies, but both owned by Knight.
~
In 2017, Knight Transportation merged with Swift Transportation and Knight-Swift Transportation Holdings Inc. was formed to serve as the parent company for both carriers.

Thats pretty awesome. The offer from Knight is exactly what I was hoping to get short of Tanker Hazmat. I am going to pray the application gets approved with a pre hire. I think my job search would be over at least until that contract is over.
Thats really good to know. The offer knight is making pretty much has my whole wish list covered. The next call i guess i just have to make sure the pay is on par with the other FB offers and rates and my job search is over. All that's left to do is pray they forward a pre-hire letter.Another Canadian driver and Chinatown Thank this. -
This week's update. Got TWIC application off. Talked to the DM at Knight. Said that for my area he could almost get me home every week if I wanted to. I think 14 out and a couple home will be better. The hiring manager requested the documents for the background check. The pay also checks out as the average for flatbeds. Knight is also going to count my experience so I will qualify for the sign on bonus. At this point all looks good and as long as I actually get the pre hire after the checks I am going to take it. This weekend is going to feel long. Classes start on Monday, and I am sooo ready to get back on the road and back to work. Have a safe weekend and watch out for them thar triple digit trucks!

Endorsements question. Now that classes started, I am getting more anxious to get back to work. I know I am likely going into flatbed at least to start. In Texsa you cannot take any endorsement tests except tanker with your CLP. We graduate on Friday right after Thanksgiving, which means I would be able to take the endorsement tests the following Monday. Most companies start orientations on Mondays. I know there are only opinions, so the question is, would it be worth it to take the tests and push back orientation a week, or take the endorsements as I progress? I did learn something in my first class, for some heavy haul and oversize you need doubles and triples. I was not planning on getting that, but since my goal is working my way into heavy haul, I will need to get that at some point. Thanks for all your thoughts.

@Eight Omens --
Take the tests as soon as the state of Texas will allow it.
Why?
Some security clearance paperwork is now taking a lot longer than it used to.
Thus--get it started asap.
If this pushes orientation back a week (or even more)--so be it.
Your employer should in fact understand (and be sympathetic to) your reasoning.
If the job offer is a solid one--pushing orientation back a week (or longer) shouldn't really matter.
Also: if you get on with Knight Transportation--from the above given info, you should know that you would then have access to ALL of the Knight & Swift terminals and dropyards, nation-wide.....for overnight parking.
Especially when in the northeast....or in/near major metro areas....that's a game-changer for you.

I am pretty sure the offer is solid. They started my background checks there Friday. Talked with both the hiring manager and the person that would be my dispatcher. I should hear back this week. OFC Covenant and Werner both sent pre-hires, so I have back up plans. This week I will drop full applications in with schneider and swift as well. While Knight is the best fit for me, I am not going to put all my eggs in one basket. Thanks again. That is the direction i was leaning. I just have no patients with the waiting around for appointments. Not being able to work for a few years has me really excited to get back to it.Another Canadian driver Thanks this.

@Eight Omens --
I started off in the industry with Schneider.
Based on what I have learned over time in the industry--of the carriers you've mentioned up to now--you are probably better off in the long run if you can get on with either Knight or Swift, first.

Big huge awesome update today. While I was in class this morning, I got a call from one of the TX DPS managers. He informed me if I had an updated medical card, I would be reissued my CDL. SO, I went this afternoon and did just that. I was also able to schedule my endorsement tests for next Wednesday morning as I can focus on them instead of the permit test. My class just became a refresher class and an HME ELDT class on Friday. This just reduced a bunch of test anxiety!

Today's update called a local company about crane transportation. I landed a working interview for Tuesday. It is a union job where they train you as a rigger and a crane operator. This may be a great opportunity as well.
