Hello all, not necessarily new to trucking but back after some time off. When I was getting ready to come back to trucking I went ahead and got all my endorsements added to my CDL. Tanker, Doubles and HazMat.
I’ve since found a job that I’m planning on retiring from, I will not need my HazMat and I don’t intend on keeping it. I was told by one of the drivers that I need to go to the MVD and tell them I want to get rid of my HazMat and if I just let it expire it will also expire my CDL, does this sound true?
Thanks all!

Check with your state motor vehicle department. In my state you can let your haz-mat endorsement expire without it affect your cdl.
SmoothBore and prostartom Thank this. -
I think @tscottme posted something about this a while back.

Make sure you go to your DMV and let them know you no longer need your Haz-Mat endorsement, some states suspend your CDL if you do not renew Haz-Mat before it expires.tscottme and SmoothBore Thank this.

this is what I was afraid of, thank you I’ll try to sneak in before work tomorrow.

Correctish, in most states if you don't volunteer to drop hazmat and also fail to renew it they will then suspend your CDL.
Some states just downgrade and require you to surrender old lisc, really a crap shoot.tscottme and SmoothBore Thank this. -
Yes. In my state, if you just wait for your HazMat to expire, instead of turning in your HazMat CDL and trading it for a non-HM CDL, your CDL could be downgraded. It's my impression some states this happens and other states it does not happen. I would recommend you go to the DMV and trade-in your HM CDL.SmoothBore Thanks this.
