I will buy one when the cost comes down a bit and a better network to be able to charge up
NightWind, PPLC, Flat Earth Trucker and 7 others Thank this. -
Considering there aren't any in production yet, I doubt if you'll get an answer to your question. There are a handful of prototypes on the road now, but they're all just beta testing the tech. Tesla is the only production truck that will be class 8, and they still aren't in full production mode yet. There are constant delays.

I think I’d buy one but it would have to work 1000X better than my flashlight
Trucker Paul, HoundDog7, Sirscrapntruckalot and 11 others Thank this. -
i just sent an email to volvo im going to be driving in ny/nj metro area so i wont be going beyond 150 miles a day so electric is the way to go for me
Sirscrapntruckalot, Another Canadian driver, Keepforgettingmypassword and 3 others Thank this. -
What?? Tesla is not even in the ballgame anymore... There is lots of other companies building electric trucksBlue jeans, gentleroger, Sirscrapntruckalot and 6 others Thank this.

There are? AFAIK, there are some wannabes toying with prototypes and whatnot. But, none are actually building a production, Class 8 tractor.
I have a feeling, the energy needs of pulling 80K of weight, over lengthy distances, is so far beyond battery feasibility, it’ll never happen. We went through this with CNG and look how long that lasted. -
Every major truck manufacturer has class 8 trucks...peterbilt , kenworth, freightliner, mack, Volvo... Man and scania are working on prototypes over seas.. Volvo is leading the way by far... They have alot of trucks running around south central la and long beach ports, freightliner does as well with the eCascadia. Volvo has a plan that in 7 years , half of all their truck sales is going to be electric.. They claim 150-250 mile range which is perfect for local work right now... And the technology will only improve everyday from here on.
Byd has class 8 electric trucks you can buy right now on the market if you are so inclined..lion electric has class 6-8 vocational trucks for sale.. Nikola is getting ready for production next year. Has lots of prototypes on the road just like all the other manufactures. Theres a truck company with a yard near anahaim with a yard full of them last time i was over there sitting in traffic.. Nikola is already selling their batteries to other manufacturers..
Tesla is so far behind they have been kicked out of the ballgame, they are not even being talked about anymore.NightWind, Sirscrapntruckalot, Another Canadian driver and 6 others Thank this. -
I meant Class 8 trucks that actually travel some distances and aren’t spending the day sat at docks. For the majority of local applications, it still doesn’t work.
We’ve been told “battery technology is only going to get better”, for more than 100 years. And, billions of dollars have been spent on it. Still, it has limited applications.Another Canadian driver and merv85 Thank this. -
Well all i know is what i see with my own eyes.. And i see these trucks on the road working everyday... If volvo plans to have half their sales in electric trucks by 2030 then they obciously feel very confident in the fact that the battery tech is going to be able to go long distances... Thats all i know.. I will leave the smart people to figure out how to do it.. But i dont doubt that eventually its going to get here in a big way within the next 5 years or so... There is to much market share and money at stake for any truck manufacturer to not want to be the first to the table with the best product.gentleroger, Sirscrapntruckalot, Czar_Zero and 7 others Thank this.
