I’m a big guy and been in this industry 15 years. Here’s the rules. A few companies require a sleep study, such as Schneider. Most do not. The problem is, almost all big companies have you do a new med card when you are hired. They will send you to a place like concentra. Concentra will be the ones to give a 3 month med card and force you to do a sleep study. There really isn’t a way around this.

If you don’t want a sleep study the only thing you can really do is make sure the company you work for let’s you bring in your own current med card and/or let’s you get your own med card at a location you choose. I drive for myself now so this is easy but as a company driver your options are limited.

"There are some companies..." that do or don't do almost anything anyone can ask about. That doesn't mean they are a good place to work. IMO, you should find the best company you can work for and then put up with their rules and practices. It's the Doctor/nurse that decides if you must take a sleep study, not the trucking company.

 

Like others said the big companies you are doing anew med card that Monday with their medical provider, so you will get a 3 month med card, you would have to find one of those easy going chiropractors.
