I have a 2001 Cat C-15 (NZ) serial. I am stumped by a very strange fuel issue I am havine and the local KW shop and Freightline shop have yet to figure this out.
At first whe driving even bobtailing when the RPM's hit 1500 only in 8th and 9th gear on this super 10 the power drops off as if its not getting any fuael as does the tirbo pressure. Once itgets to just shy of 1600 RPM the power picks up and all is fine. So the shop tested the fuel pressue and ended up disconnecting the water seperator / fuel heater and all seemed to have been corrected.....
Untill I put weight in the trailer, the problem was back, now its only happening when your loaded, only in these 2 gears at the same RPM. I brought it to Novi Cat and put it on the Dyno and everything was great, fuel pressue, turbo, power etc. but they never brought it into the gears where the problem starts, as the dyno program takes in into 4th gear.
Has anyone seen an issue like this or any input on what this could possibly be? All the injectors are working perfectly from the ECM hookup, fuel pressue is good, no air in the lines, change the two valves over the fuel filters, changed the fuel filters, had an overhead done...
Very Bizzar Problem...

Have you always had this truck and this is new? Or this is a new truck for you? Because it sounds like some effed settings in the progressive shift and gear down protection features

My guess would be something electrical that might be connected to the trans. I had a 97 trans am LT1 engine and 6spd tranny, one day I was driving and the speed sensor cable somehow freyed away, first of course I noticed that my speed wasnt registering but then even more weird was my alternator was no longer charging my battery and my car was slowly drained of power. Mechanic said they do stuff like that to prevent people from disconnecting the speed sensor on the tranny. My point being is one little thing could totally affect something you would never think of.

we had a very similar problem with a 2ws serial number cat and it ended up being the fuel pressure check valve in the filter housing for the return fuel
it only happened in the top gear and it was an 18 speed
it is very easy to change you only need a 1 inch wrench and they are under $100
we found this after spending A LOT of money on electrical harness's, ecm, injectors, sensors, fuel pump....... -
My guess would go to a sensor in the trans not registering propper ingagement or showing a slip condition Don't you just love electronics???

Seriously? I try not to jump down anybody's throat when they try to offer advice so please don't think that's what I am doing, but if you're going to try to offer advice at least Try looking at your trans next time. Its a super 10, it has a speed sensor, reverse switch, and if you're really lucky a neutral switch.

well why only those gears ??
-
Read my first post, or the guy who had the bad check valve.
There are many ways to end up with behavior that is different in certain gears without jumping right to some mystical transmission sensor that doesn't exist on any transmission in existence. -
No transmission in existance has slip sensors???????
-
Nope. Nor has anybody invented one.Izzyloco Thanks this.
