Broker: I can’t get that out of them. You know how things are right now.
Me: And you know I won’t take it out there for less. So why the call? You gonna pony it up out of your pocket?
Broker: Something is going to have to be done about it.
Me: Yeah. You’re gonna have to call them and tell them what it’s gonna cost them or they can let it sit there. Or do you want me to call them?
Broker: No no, don’t do that. Let me see if they can.
Me: Well I’ll be honest with you, I don’t want you to take that big of a hit out of your pocket for it. If they can’t or won’t meet my rate, don’t call me back. Tell them to put it between their cheeks and walk it out there. You know better than this.
Broker: I just don’t want to piss them off and-
Me: And what? Lose some ####ty rates?
Broker: You know what, don’t worry about it. I’ll find someone else. *click*

About 40 minutes later…

ring ring
Me: Guess the rolodex reached the end?
Broker: Can you actually get to it?
Me: Only if they’re paying my rate.
Broker: Get a pen, I have the load number.
Me: Are they paying my rate?
Broker: They came up to $4000.
Me: Send that load number back to ‘em. *click*

3 minutes goes by…

ring ring
Broker: I have (John Doe) their shipping manager on the line with us, please have some restraint.
John Doe: What’s the problem? This load needs moved and $4000 is astronomically above market right now. You’re lucky we offered that.
Me: Hang on a second.
John Doe: What?
Me: Hang on, I’m adding Jane Doe (owner/manager of facility product goes to) to this conference call.
John Doe: This is ridiculous-
Jane Doe: Hello?
Broker: christ almighty…
Me: Yeah Jane this is Ted K, how are you?
Jane Doe: I’m doing a lot better if this means you’re picking up the load that someone else didn’t show up for.
Broker: *groans*
Jane Doe: Ah, I see what’s going on. John Doe are you here too?
John Doe: Yes ma’am, we’re trying to get your product to you as soon as-
Jane Doe: Then pay Ted his rate. Or we will. I assume this is what this is all about?
Me: Yep.
Broker: We’ve been trying-
Jane Doe: Trying to what? Trip over a dime to save a penny?
John Doe: Ma’am we can find you a carrier for better rates now.
Jane Doe: Until they don’t show up. Or damage (the product) because they have no ####ing clue what they’re doing.
Broker: *stifled laugh*
Jane Doe: You think this is funny?
Broker: No, just what we’ve been telling them for years now.
John Doe: Look if it is this much of a problem-
Jane Doe: Let me stop you there. We purchase from you at a contracted rate that includes shipping. Now, if you’re about to tell me to shop elsewhere, I will. I’m sure Ted can provide a list in addition to mine of other customers of yours who are all also sick of this madness.
John Doe: I’ll need to get you with (Jack Doe) as he is in charge of your account if that is what you wish to do.
Jane Doe: Don’t bother, I just emailed him.
John Doe: WHAT? No this call is over. *click*
Broker: I can’t believe you, Ted…
Me: Hey I’m just along for the ride now same as you.
Jane Doe: Ted?
Me: Yes ma’am.
Jane Doe: Go get it picked up. Either they’ll do what they’re supposed to do and pay you, or I’ll pay you myself.
Me: 10-4, I’ll head on down there.
Broker: What-
Jane Doe: You won’t be included. *click*
Broker: I can’t believe you…holy ####. *click*

A few moments later…

ring ring
Me: Hello?
Broker: Whatever you do, don’t do that again.
Me: Ah so they got the rate up?
Broker: Yes. Here’s your load number.

A few moments laterer…

ring ring
Me: Hello?
Jack Doe: This Ted?
Me: Speaking please.
Jack Doe: This is Jack Doe with Wemakegoodproductsbutwearegreedy Inc. I heard there was a problem with you.
Me: There might be one now, seeing as I don’t work for you. Go ahead there, shoot.
Jack Doe: I need you to stop speaking with our customers.
Me: Well with that attitude, you’re about to have no customers.
Jack Doe: Are you on your way to pickup?
Me: Yes, indeed I am.
Jack Doe: It’ll be your last. *click*

This maybe my favorite post of all time. TY for making my day with this one. I hope to hell the client that orders from them puts you on some loads and they cross off all those other people. Sometimes people just do not get it. Good for you man!

He could be a chemically dependent functioning alcoholic. Those people need alcohol to avoid DTs. Like opioid addicts. They use a certain amount of the drug just to avoid being sick so they can function and aren't even high from it. The entire drug and alcohol system seems flawed to me. Seems like cognitive or impairment testing would be a better indicator whether someone is fit the drive than a something they did while not driving.
