I live in SD and we dont have any extensions to plug the truck in on off time and spend a LOT of time up north. Plus the roof got blown off my shack a while back by a storm which then flooded it for good mesure. So because insurance is still lollygagging on fixing it. I am currently sleeping in my truck when im home XD and just using the communal bunk house at the farm for everything else until insurance replaces or fixes said shack.
APU is a 3fer keeps me warm, keeps my block and tanks from freezeing up (happened twice last year anyway even with arctic fox tank heaters and a 2500 watt block and filter heater) plus i am currently sheltering in it because my house is currently sans the entire bloody roof and insurance says if i just pay to have it fixed they wont reimburse me so i gotta wait on them.
New owner torn on a new truck.

Oh, for some reason I thought you are in PA.
During last three years I ran from Denver to Grand Forks and the stretch between Sioux Falls and Fargo is the worst.
It seems like all the o/o in SD/ND run pre egr classics and just idle all the timeOpendeckin and Siinman Thank this. -
I know what the APU's are for lol. My question was addressed to the OP. I thought he is in PA and it's not hard to get by one winter without an APU if the budget is tight.

I got by last winter running the PNW without an APU or bunk heater. I just wrapped myself up. But I don't want to go through that again. So besides an APU or bunk heater, are there other options? Can one buy a portable electric heater and just plug it into the inverter? Serious question. I don't feel like spending thousands to heat the interior when I'm sleeping. I need to take care of other things first.

I think there is a thread called buddy heater. It as some good info on it and others.gekko1323 Thanks this.

So getting my new green APU installed today. My poor truck looks like i parked in a bad part of town in chicago right now while they do it....oh wait XD
As an afterthought im dropping my skirts when i get home next and powerwashing the hell out of that. I had no idea it was that awful under there. -
All I could think was "wouldn't you rather install a bath?"JoeyJunk Thanks this.
-
Right? Usually i cant get up under there because the skirts have a little plastic peice that goes between the skirt and cab covering them up and there is no room under for a wash wand. And i never drop the skirts unless absolutely nessesary because it is an absolute royal pain in the rear getting them off and even worse getting them on again. So it was a "out of sight out of mind" issue XD

They got er done today. Havent really had time to play with it yet, but it did get my bunk icy cold in a hurry then warm again right after. Ill give you my first impresions on it after ive had a chance to run it a few days.
