yes i worked for usa truck and i was coming home for home time and got to the terminal on a monday night wife picked me up. the next day they dispatcher called and said i had to go to terminal for a random. so i went to the terminal and safty manager was not around so i went to maint. and started a work order on the truck because it had some issues. went back to safty and still he was not there. so i went back home. i know now that i should have called however i feel that the dispatcher should have told me if i have any problems call i had only been driving solo for about week and half. so they put it down as a refusal. now i completed all the programs that are required by dot but it is still hard to get a job. any suggestions on what a driver could do.

Did you have anything to hide? Did you do anything in front of your trainer that would cause suspicion? You say you completed all the required by the DOT. How long ago was that?

If has been a long time, you may be stuck driving for the bottom of the barrel. Let me know. If it has only been a few days, go take a drug screen and pay for it yourself and start talking to the Employment Department in your state. This will prove you had nothing to hide and THC can be detected up to 6 weeks.

Also, it costs more, but if you have nothing to hide, have the strand (hair strand) drug test. It is more accurate, can go back as far as 7+ years. This will prove that your 'refusal" was a simple matter of miscommunication between a dispatcher and a newb.

    Good luck!

i think they were out to get me because they felt i was complaining to much about the truck but like i told them let them go out and in a truck with no front defrost,no warning tri-angels,wipers fluid only worked on the pass side could not clean the windsheild.

Out to get you? Cmon, don't start that stuff. I hear this a lot from rookie drivers. No one is out to get you. The bottom line that, if you were trained properly or even read the company manual, then you would have known that when you were called for a random that it is mandatory to get it immediately. You should have called your dispatch and told them what was up. You knew in your mind that it was wrong of you to leave without doing the test and you should have called someone.

I am also positive that somewhere along the training trail you were told by , "When in doubt, call somebody". They probably even gave you a list of phone numbers that you can reach people 24/7.

Every company gives each driver a copy of the little green book. DOT regs.

All the info you ever need is in there and talks about ramdoms.

Any time your not sure read it & it explains everything.

Yes you were new, but you could of asked anyone about procedures and they would of told you not to leave. Leaving or a refusal is as bad as a failure. They will report it on your dac and also has to be reported that you refused.

In this job market now, 1.5 weeks solo and a refusal on your record, maybe a different line of work.

Next time you get called for a random, stick around and finish it. I've had to go find a driver at the clinic and when I did, he was out back wizzing in the bushes.

He was fired when we got back to the yard and this was back when there was no leniency or rehab program.

Yep ... when they want a drug test ... it means NOW or at the very most, as soon as your shift is over. Was told last week to get a random as soon as my shift was over and they left the necessary paperwork in my box. After I finished my shift, I went home just long enough for the clinic to open in the morning and was there as soon as they opened the doors at 07:30 hours. ALL companies take drug screens seriously ... dead seriously.

Lesson learned: Avoid taking calls from the company on your time off. CallerID is a wonderful investment.
