Would you purchase a truck with a bajillion different title changes?

We've been looking at older vocational trucks [Internationals and Ford Louisvilles and whatnot], and every time I get close to pulling the trigger, I pry the VIN out of the owner's clutches, and run it through CarFax, and come back with a crazy history for the truck.

A couple of weeks ago, I got close to purchasing a vocational truck from a seller, only to run the CarFax, and discover that the true mileage was something like TEN TIMES what the owner was claiming it to be, with a recorded history of a massive odometer rollback, which completely voided the CarFax warranty on the truck.

I tried to warn the owner that it was FELONY FRAUD to misrepresent the truck in such a fashion, but all I got was "blah blah blah denialism blah blah blah I can do whatever I want blah blah blah".

I didn't walk away from that one so much as I ran away from it; I didn't even have a chance to SMDH afterwards.

Anyway, I found a really interesting vocational truck the other day, and it doesn't have any documented history of wrecks, and the mileage does seem to be fairly low [maybe even legitimate], but then I look at the title history, and it's simply nuts:

In the following picture, I feel like I've identified THIRTEEN different instances of the title having been altered:

And the truck is only 24 years old [model year 1998], so it's getting re-titled more than once every two years.

Is this normal in the used truck market?

Is there some bizarre secret society of dealers who spend all day trading titles with one another?

    If I were a forensic accountant, I think I'd feel like I was looking at m0ney l@undering or t@x ev@sion or somesuch.

Do y'all feel cool with purchasing a truck which has a title history like Elizbeth Taylor had a marriage history?

Well I probably wouldn’t worry about it if it seems like a good truck and honest owner I dont think it’s really going to matter. Seems like it could be hard to find someone to drive it

    Per the innernets

    ****vo·ca·tion·al

    /vōˈkāSH(ə)n(ə)l/

    adjective

relating to an occupation or employment.

"they supervised prisoners in vocational activities"

(of education or training) directed at a particular occupation and its skills.

    "vocational school"****?

I had the same trouble when looking for a "vocational truck". I finally just bought regular trucks

So y'all think it's perfectly normal for a truck to have its title altered every 18 or 20 months?

    Y'all don't think that's kinda weird?

Are y'all routinely flipping y'all's trucks in less than two years?

Maybe that's just the way y'all do business?

Serious question here. I'm not trying to pick a fight or anything.

I'm honestly curious about what's going on, and whether you feel like you can trust folks who are swapping titles around as though they were chips on a blackjack table.

With the age of the trucks you're looking at, they may only have 6 digits on the odometer. Once it hits 999,999 it rolls over to 000,000. There is no way at all to verify how many miles are on it by just looking at the odometer. I wouldn't be quick to point fingers at the seller for fraud in that case.
