Good evening,
I am a disabled veteran, former LE and federal employee. I am almost 40, married with a kid. I figured I would post my journey here for y'all. Right now, not much going on. Got conditional offer later from TMC Trans and Roehl. I also applied for Hirschbach. I guess right now I need to make a decision.![]()

THANK YOU -- for your service to our great Country!!!

If you haven't already--seriously consider getting those endorsements: tanker, hazmat....and doubles/triples.
In the vast majority of cases--that's where the real money is, in trucking.
The endorsements are door-openers, and money-makers!
Is your back much better? Were you able to finally retrieve med records for it?
Depending on the extent of your back injury--it's hard to encourage/recommend flatbed/stepdeck work, in your case.
What city/state do you live near?

I do have Tanker endorsement, did not do doubles/triples (but MD will charge me 90 bucks again to take the knowledge exam for it). My back is better than it has been since I stopped wearing body armor, but I think I'll stay out of flatbed. Doc signed me off for no serious issues, so I should be good for anything else.

Travel light. Trust me on this......
TripleSix, bryan21384, Boondock and 2 others Thank this. -
Good luck on your journey! My not asked for $0.02 is that TMC is pretty well-respected. Seems like a decent place to work for experienced or new drivers. Roehl seems pretty decent except the nanny cameras. They have a variety of accounts and types of trucking to move between if one doesn’t work out for ya. Did they require you to pay your own travel? That’s a red flag at most companies if so, but maybe that’s the norm for training companies.
They get a hard time often, but Knight and Swift are decent options to consider. They also have lots of accounts and TONS of terminals. I’m jealous every time I’m having to park 50 miles outside of a major city due to parking issues while knowing that Knight/Swift, Schneider, etc. are all on their way to their cozy terminal and free showersLilRedRidingHood and bryan21384 Thank this. -
TooMuchChrome is NOT the place to go, trust me. I wouldn’t wish that place on anyone. If someone wants to go flatbed, the maroon trucks out of Little Rock are a much better bet.
bryan21384 and lual Thank this. -

For the newbies......"the maroon trucks out of Little Rock" = Maverick Transportation

They made me pay my own way for travel, but they cover hotel and 2 meals a day. I have to cover dinner and weekend meals. I do not think I will do flatbed, Dryvan or Reefer.
Awara Thanks this.
