They couldn't afford to protest, they went back to hauling the cheap freight today. :p

as a new authority owner op I'm understanding the pain, the problem is these company big wigs don't want us little guy making more money then them.
I feel though maybe the government should regulate things and get rid of terms such as line haul and fuel surcharge etc. Cut out the #### brokers who our taking way too big of a cut and just pay us directly.

anyhow obviously a protest probably won't help but will see

You’re thinking in terms of a one truck operation. Fuel surcharge is there because people go after multi-year contracts. You can’t bid a lane for a year or more without it and anyone that tries would be foolish. And how would eliminating brokers put more money in your pocket? The same number of trucks would still be competing for the same number of loads only you’d be undercutting each other at the shipper’s level to try and get the work. And the shippers would try and knock the rate down too because they’d be paying to staff a traffic department like back in the old days.

There are no old days of trucking anymore. Shippers don't need a traffic department, nor brokers. They need a TMS and through API's, they can contract with, manage, and pay carriers easily. You don't even need a phone anymore. I rarely speak to anyone to book a load. After delivery, I upload a pic of the signed BOL and get paid whatever the terms are set to. There are just too many technology solutions available to keep using brokers.

I thought Big drum sticks beat the loudest. Usually, the drums just sit there...hollow.
