I love me some 3406s.
But dadgum.
$145k don't even amount to a hill of beans.
CAT must have some seriously powerful lobbyists in Washington DC, if that's all the slap on the wrist they're gonna receive.

well that may be only the fine, i wonder how much his family is going to get once the judge slams down that gavel.
maybe another "nuclear verdict", and frankly i hope so.
this is all the attorney for his family needs:
"OSHA sent investigators to the Mapleton, Illinois foundry on June 2 after the incident. Investigators found that the facility was lacking legally required guardrails and restraint systems to protect workers from falling into dangerous equipment.
The release also said the company "routinely exposed employees to unprotected fall hazards as they worked within four feet of deep ceramic containers of super-heated molten iron."LilRedRidingHood, Cat sdp, ducnut and 2 others Thank this. -
If caterpillar treat his family like they did my lousy warranty claim, they won't be getting any or anything. Good will, honour, integrity was just all to much for a $2000 part less than 1 month out of its 12 month warranty. So I hope the law makes that big C pay otherwise the family are on their own.
Even 145K is what, a couple motors? The fine doesn't match what this company should be doing por capable of. -
Figure the family of this poor chap is going to get alot more after the lawsuit gets filed. Without reading the article it's hard to say if OSHA got the amount right or not.
-
That may be the maximum amount that OSHA is allowed to fine them.
I wonder how long it had been since their last OSHA inspection. And are none of these workers unionized? You think somebody would have filed a grievance.rollin coal and Bean Jr. Thank this. -
They’ve broken the unions, in most facilities.

I'm sorry, but he was a man. He had a choice whether or not to work in that environment. I don't understand the lawsuit mentally.
I pay for accidental death or dismemberment insurance. I pay for short term and long term disability, and life insurance. If I die at work my wife will collect double.
Caterpillar didn't actively kill this man. His mistakes killed himself.
If the environment was unsafe he (as a man) should've refused to work in that situation.
I will never buy into the mentality of nuclear lawsuits, especially since no one here knows exactly what happened.
He very well may have been an idiot who wouldn't follow safety guidelines, but because it's published on the internet, everyone here seems to think the company should go bankrupt.little cat 500, RockinChair, bzinger and 1 other person Thank this. -
Pretty sure a multi-billion dollar company had some well-established safety guidelines THEY couldn’t follow, despite ~120 years in business. That’s only a tick more than the 9 days this poor guy had been in the business.bzinger Thanks this.

Maybe his training should've been better, maybe not. I don't work for them, but I know without a doubt there are some things I'd be willing to do, and some things I would not.
He made a choice, just because he died on a company's property does not entitle his family to millions of dollars.Feedman Thanks this. -
Cat sucks anyways…….
just my personal experiencebuddyd157 Thanks this.
