This happened a couple of hours ago @ 1-81 mm221 where 1-64 west merges into 1-81. It appears that a truck traveling west of 1-64 on the ramp for 1-81 south, went thru the guardrail . This is an elevated ramp over 1-81. Details of this have not been revealed, but as of 8:50am 1-81 is shut down both directions and 1-64 also.

FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT AT I-64 & I-81

At 6:17 AM on Saturday, November 19, 2022, Virginia State Police responded to a crash in Augusta County at the I-81 and I-64 interchange.

A tractor-trailer was traveling west on I-64. As it was taking the ramp to merge onto I-81 south, the tractor-trailer ran off of the road and went through the guardrail. The trailer landed in the northbound lanes of I-81, where it struck a pickup truck.

The driver and passenger in the tractor-trailer were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

An individual in the pickup truck died at the scene.

The tractor-trailer was loaded with chicken waste, which spilled across the travel lanes when the tank was damaged in the crash. Clean up is underway.

There were two secondary, minor crashes due to the slick road conditions caused by the waste spill. No injuries involved in those.

    The crash remains under investigation.

Tall Mike and tscottme Thank this.

I am on that ramp at least twice a week and you cannot believe the stupidity of drivers. It is plainly marked, safe speed 55, left lane ends, merge right. Either people cannot read or they think that they might get a job with a NASCAR team as a driver.

That time of the morning could freezing fog be an issue?
