to the truckers that got stuck in Buffalo

I avoided this one. Quickest way was through Buffalo on Wed. night. I said no thanks. Won’t take the chance with Buffalo. Cut down to i80 from Albany. Stopped for the night just east of Akron. A band of that lake effect snow moving in there Thursday morning. It got bigger. I skipped out an hour early on my 10. Took that hour SW of Akron.

 

They can't fool us !

 

That's what I do when I leave the house in Binghamton. At my age after driving all these years I just avoid it all together.

 

Weather’s getting nice, now. Should be plenty of snowbirds clogging your way.

 

Lake-effect snow is often in bands which is the reason why you can be in sunshine and blue skies then ten miles down the highway, run into heavy snow.

 

What way did you cut down to 80?

 

Maybe...2013? 2014? ABF sent me to Louisville. A "snow hurricane" was being forecast. 70 mph winds and whiteout. If they got me out of the hotel in 10 hours, I could rush home and beat it.

These psychos wanted me to go to Nashville, THEN up to Chicago. I could barely do that in PERFECT weather (620-630 miles plus yard work), and so I got on the phone and ended up staying a few days down in Nashville.

The weather I would've hit starting at the Kentucky/Indiana border could've been life-threatening. Ya gotta watch yourself out there.

 

Always willing to break out a couple of snow chains for the drives to get myself out of a jam like this.

 

Chains won't get you through a pileup and feet of snow.

Is best to completely avoid these situations.

 

Don't be so sure about that.
