You're crazy. Black bear is very good, a little pricey though.

 

Been to about a half dozen Black Bears all over the country over the years ... with one exception always been subjected to bad service and poorly prepared food ... pretty much the same as an Iron Skillett ... though the worst service at an Iron Skillet was better than the worst service at a Black Bear.

 

The black bear in Barstow has to be 1 of the best places I’ve ate at ever, including non truck stops. I guess I have a different view on things then others. Service and food excellent.

 

Well I dropped the ball on trying Black Bear when I went to Colorado back in September. Forgot all about it.

 

I'm ALWAYS jealous when I talk to a truck driver who treats conversation as a dick measuring contest.

 

I agree. It used to be cheaper, but what hasn’t gone up. I get the 10 oz burger steak eggs etc. always fresh and quick. I have quit buying the $2.75 cup of coffee!

 

I ate at the Black Bear in Auburn, CA a couple of weeks ago. Was visiting relatives. Food was average. Prices above normal. It was lunchtime on a Saturday and the three older women were worked hard. Our server was about 5 months along in her pregnancy.
They had one section closed off because of lack of staff. We had about a 15 minute wait to be seated and another 10 minute wait to pay when finished. There was a line waiting at the register. Thankfully, everyone remained civil and i didn't see anyone skip out without paying.
Of course, this location wasn't connected to a truck stop, so i don't know if that had anything to do with a shortage of employee's.

 

One of the differences between Denny's and IHOP is that you likely won't get pancake syrup that tastes like cough syrup from Denny's.

 

Black Bear? Dennys, with higher prices and a bad attitude.
