I thought nine meant no? Also if the dog was trainer properly it shouldn't have even paid attention to the kid.

Nine does mean no. And the guy wanted the dog to stop doing something. What do you say when you want a kid or dog to stop doing something, either no, stop it, so forth. The german command for leave it is lass es I've found very few are trained to it though. Only one of my dogs knew what it was and in reality nine works just as well and is quicker to say when you really dont want him to do something he's about to do. Like run after a rabbit. Nine also has a 'corrective' tone which is more likely to get the dog (the police dog in the story) to go 'what did I do...' hence the desired result of the man >.>

I didn't read the story link but in this case the dog may be new to the handler, or new to the job. It does take time to bond with a handler. My dog in a calm situation will pick and chose to obey commands from others, as in the groomer, or vet. Or my mom. But when he is ramped up, he is not going to listen to them. My mom routinely tries to 'steal' my dog by leading him to her car and trying to get him to get in. I told her the day she gets him in the car without me she can have him. Hasn't happened yet lol. He just stays in the direction I am in and doesn't follow.

Pronounced the same way, and its easier for others to type out nine (and easier for me).

In that case, you'd lose a leg around here. Nyet ?

We have 3 K-9 units here. Each using different languages for commands.

Big Don and jtrnr1951 Thank this.

    Freedom of speech

I dont think it fair to punish a guy because the dog isn't properly trained
Maybe the trainer should be charged with derelict of duties for his role in this

I agree! If the dog is considered a police officer of sorts then it should be trained properly or not be in the field.

    Baack Thanks this.

    Agreed,
FWIW most LESD's are no different then the officers they work with
The Poorly trained dogs are considered dirty by established standards
    much like their handling officers.

City/States that purchase these dogs are not paying for full Level 2 dogs
What they are actually getting is more of a 1.5 rather then a competent full Level 2.
The better dogs in Service are the ones that have been polished at the expense of the working Officer because the City/State refuse to fund further corrective or maintenance training. AGAIN much like the human Officers.

    Baack Thanks this.
