Check a few allisons
-
Allisons don't have slip sensors. The ECU will report slip, but it doesn't have slip sensors.
The ECU looks at input speed, output speed, and gear state to determine slip.
There is no ECU on a manual transmission, and because it doesn't have a torque converter or clutch packs all that it would tell you if it did compare engine speed to output shaft speed is the gear ratio. If it knew the gear you were in it would only tell you about clutch engagement, nothing about gear meshing. On top of all of that, unsyncronized transmissions don't have synchronizers in the transmission to fake out engagement by adding slip. -
Hey Guys, Sorry I have been away for a few days, I have read all the responses. I just brought it back to CAT and had them flash the ECM for for laughs, the mechanic said that was not going to fix the problem.... He was right. He also noted any type of electrical problem would show a fault in the ECM as well and he is convinced that this is a mechanical problem, just not sure what or where.
I have had the truck for several years and this is a somewhat new problem, that seems to becoming progressivly worse. When this issue first started showing up, it was just happening on the high side of the super 10 in 8th and 9th gear, now its starting to become a problem in 10th and yes only at or around 1500 RPMS. I was behind the truck last night following my driver to CAT, when he hit the problem RPMs I seen the truck was blowing raw fuel out the stacks, not a lot but I could smell it and see a little smoke.
Just another note, this is not alawys consistant although it happens more then it does'nt and it seems that once your in the gear and make it past the loss of power and ride that gear for a while and than let it fall under the 1500 mark it usually will run just fine thru the 1500-1600RPMs.
The trans would be a great idea, however its the sputter in the fuel (as if it was out of fuel) and the drop of the turbo pressure indicate a fuel issue, I could be wrong, I just wish I could find a solution, this is getting very expensive going back and forth to service.
I am not sure where the "Fuel Pressue Check Valve" is located sounds like a good place to look as long as its not he same valves that are above the fuel filters, can anyone confirm where this part is located?
Please guys, keep throwing out your ideas, please dont think your idea maybe stupid and keep it to yourself. I am open to any suggestions !!Last edited: Feb 13, 2010

It does sound like the check valve to me, its in the fuel line between the tanks and the engine if im not mistaken, i had a similar problem with a truck that had blockage in the check valve, when they replaced the check valve it ran great.

you have changed the fuel filters right??can you rig up a fuel presssure gauge that you can see while driving , that would clear up that question , I wonder if you have a fuel line that has a loose inner jacket and is blocking flow at a certain velocity?the other thought is a throttle pedal control issue???I would also really look at the fuel lines to see if there is any rub spots or something that could cause it to suck air

I'd also check the fuel levels in the tanks right after having this kind of problem, if they are uneven the fuel proportioning valve in the return lines may be bad.
-
to find the relief check valve
find the hose that goes from the filter head to the tank .... this is the return fuel line.
very near this line on the filter head is another line that goes from the back of the cylinder head to the filter head.
the check valve that we replaced is screwed in from the bottom of the filter head right underneath the return fuel coming from the cylinder head -
Well today was the day.... My driver was coming up from Atlanta and the truck made a freakish sound like it was out of fuel, he got off the ramp thinking he was about to run out of fuel, pulled into a truck stop, got to the fuel island shut it off dipped the tanks and there was still a good 2/12 to 3 inches of fuel. Went to start the truck and nothing... the motor just cranks. Tried to spay either and nothing at all. checked the fuel filters to make sure there was fuel in them and there was.
Towed to the nearest freighliner dealer, I guess I should here something tomorrow. Any ideas While I am waiting here chewing off my finger nails to hear what the problem could be?
