They don't have to. If it's a consumer complaint they will just send a letter.
Send a FOIA to the FMCSA, any info/complaint will be sent in a few months. Heavily redacted names, ect.
Have you had a complaint filed against your DOT#?

Years ago I was standing in the dispatch office of the outfit that I was leased to and someone called to complain about on of their trucks...the dispatcher listens for about 30 seconds n then says "yea yea whatever, why dont you call someone who cares"...LOL!!
Rideandrepair and Siinman Thank this. -
I've wondered if I'm on a list...lol.
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
Well, I once received a complaint about myself.
Someone bothered to look up my phone off of my DOT# on the door and complained that I would not let them merge, so they ended up on a shoulder.
I remember that situation well, in which going to the lane on the left wasn't any option. All I could was to reasonably slow down so that the 4 wheeler could have sped up and made it before the ramp ends but no, she slowed down too. I made her aware of the hazard with a prolonged horn signal...
But you know how that works, you tell her what uneducated driver she was by not knowing what the meaning of the right of way was, and she went ballistic.
I had a cop pulling me over 25 miles later...and spent another 30 minutes on letting him to review the dash cam.
He wasn't too nice but let me go.
I don't know if he gave that women a ticket...maybe I should have called her and asked.Siinman and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
Go to the hardware store and buy some roofing nails.
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
It is pretty well understood that all of your phone calls and GPS data is being captured, in databases looking for keywords that warrant extra scrutiny. They can also use your phone as a listening device if they want.RedForeman and Rideandrepair Thank this.

Everything’s stored in a huge database in computers somewhere out west, it’s there in case it’s needed in the future. Back when this happened, it was a considered a crazy conspiracy theory. Lot of weird things were happening, like in the middle of a call, suddenly you’re on a line with a total stranger.
-
That’s a great idea. That way you can ruin other people’s day that had nothing to do with the situation.
