Hey, I have a freightliner with an Eaton smart shift 2 pedal auto.

When taking off from 4th gear the truck sounds like its going to stall before then revving up normally. It's only for a few seconds, pretty much the same as if you try and take off in high range by mistake on a road ranger.

The driver also says it sometimes gets stuck shifting.

I am thinking the XY shifter? Is this the first thing you would try? And other ideas?

    Thanks

Or would it be time to do the clutch? It's got 1,250,000 kms on it, and I doubt it has ever had the clutch done.

First you need to check if there is any transmission codes (Roadranger.com). Try taking off in manual and see what happen. Try isolate the problem to see if it's transmission or engine problem.
