I got a guestion. I've got a friend with a mbn that is wanting to a reflash the ECM to a 6nz. But my question is why a 6nz? Another friend and I have the 2ws 550's and my dad and another friend have 6nz 550's and my friend and I can get better fuel milage and out pull them with the 2ws.

I have a 2WS in my 2000 Star and its was only rated for 475hp although now its flashed to a 7CZ. I ran it stock for a long time and it would keep up or outpull all our 550s. Not sure why theres a big fuss over the 6NZ. If anything I would think the 2WS would be better since its a older serial number so maybe the nox files aren't as bad in them as the 6NZs... not positive on that but makes sense

Thanks for the reply underpsi. Yeah I've seen on here before that yours was a 2ws. Now that you reflashed to a 7cz, is there a big differance or should I just go with something like pdi tune?

problem is when I flashed to a 7CZ at the same time I also got 59 injectors and the marine camshaft. So with all that stuff it made a huge difference but I got no idea on just a 600 file flash. Im sure some people should be able to give u some insight.

Outside of the way the engine is sealed against oil leaks there isn't much mechanical difference between the two. Both have LOW NOX files in them and a 550 is a 550.........now why the one truck ran better than the others is that it was old enough that someone may have changed fuel codes in it before CAT cracked down on the dealers for doing this.

    From a noob...

What's the difference between the 6nz and the MBN...why the reason for the ECM swap? Reason being is I'm going to look at an '03 379 with a 475hp MBN motor.

I had a 2ws also which it ran pretty good but I reflash it to a 7cz here recently and to be honest I'm pretty impress with it so far. Mine is pretty much stock and I can see difference but I'm working making some other up grades.:biggrin_25525:
