I logged back in after a short hiatus, just to get in on this. For someone to say tanker drivers are nothing special, really grinds my gears. Where to begin? They have an incredibly difficult job. It's not a load of diapers, one slip up, and it's curtains, for many, driver included. That truck you're in, fueled by someone that risked their lives, so you can plod down the boulevard. Give them a break. Like stagecoach drivers, I gave them all the room they needed, peoples lives are at stake. In this silly world today, we've seemed to forget that. Tanker drivers, statistically speaking, have the best drivers records of anyone, and we'd be in a world of hurt without them,,more so. Tip of the hat to all you gas cans, thermos bottles and pneumatics, diapers we can do without, tankers,,never!
To the OP,, YOU need a break.Just passing by, JoeyJunk, austinmike and 3 others Thank this. -
They really aren’t, having done multiple different markets/wagons, they all have their own difficulties, tank, dump, roll off, double cab roll off, walking floor, concrete mixer, flat, low bed/plant moves, even reefer, and the local/otr debate, all has their own set of things different from other parts of the industry, and it seems that everyone thinks what they do is the hardest, yet has no understanding of the rest, but I guess we can circle back up for the below average intelligence post a few up.Last edited: Dec 22, 2022
JoeyJunk, Still undecided and Jubal Early Times Thank this. -
I'm not sure how to take that, but none of the driving jobs you posted can blow you and nearby human beings to Kingdom Come. People have some pride, of course they think they are the best, or they wouldn't get out of bed otherwise. I've done just about every job you mentioned, but hauled ONE load of gas in my life, and it wasn't for me. I'm sorry you feel that way about tanker yankers, I give them the utmost of respect.austinmike, RockinChair, LtlAnonymous and 2 others Thank this.

my last long term company before I was O/O did a lot of environmental and I did quite a bit of sludge with a tanker, never done gas though
a 100k 330 cat will still kill you in the wrong situation, just like a tank. Atleast a boom would take care of you quick, breathe in too much asbestos and you probably won’t be so lucky…
I don’t particularly feel any way about anyone, other then let the man(and woman) do their jobs -
Especially the ones in company trucks who use their 'driver rewards' to pace you. (for those who don't know, driver rewards are when you go a specified distance/time and are allowed a brief 5 mph burst of speed) If I don't feel like playing, I'll push on the throttle. If I'm just in a DGAF mood, I'll sit next to them until their 'rewards' run out and then continue on my way.JoeyJunk, Coffey, Gatordude and 1 other person Thank this. -
LOL "driver rewards"... ** Slave wage reparations. There I fixed it.

Everyone starts somewhere. Once you emancipate yourself you can run how you want. -
What was the speed limit in the "work zone" where the tanker yanker passed you?
JoeyJunk, Coffey and LtlAnonymous Thank this.
