I got this from a couple of the Pilot fuel drivers in this area who got it from their higher-ups... The deal is pretty much over. Flying J is pushing for all their managers and drivers to maintain their seniority. Pilot will not even guarantee they keep their jobs. The talk around here (Columbus region) is they wanted to pick and choose what drivers they keep, if any at all. And management wise they would let half of the Flying J managers go. A Pilot has 2 store managers per store, Flying J keeps 4 of them per store.
Word is Pilot was going to let Flying J go bankrupt then come in and buy the remains outright.

At Pilot it appears that both managers are constantly in training...I can't remember when I saw a manager at Pilot that knew what he/she was doing...always asking one of the clerks for help with the computer!
Sorry way to run a business if you ask me...but nobody asked...so i put it out there anyway!

Let's remember that Flying J and Pilot were built on the old economy. Pilot may be around for a while as a 2nd rate fuel stop for the big companies but I hope we see a return to the Mom and Pop places before long. Good restraunts. FlyingJ was a Mom and Pop place that just grew and once Pop is gone adios...too much work for the kids. The same formula applies to trucking companies too. One hard worker has to run the show.

I can remember as many in this area probably can when Pilot's were just discount gas stations, then some of them added a diesel pump, they were cheap and cattered to the owner operator, no frills, not even showers, I'm not sure if it was owned by the Haslem's then or not. I can remember the first one I saw outside of Tennessee was at Kingman,Az., we were sitting at the old Union 76 looking out the window at Pilot's constuction and I told a friend if I had money I think I would buy stock in Pilot. Boy how things change and never for the better it seems, no way I fuel at a Pilot, although I will use the Cat scale when needed. Now the people of Tennessee have the chance of a Pilot governor in the upcoming election, no way I will support a company named after the man that crucified Jesus Christ.
Michelangelo Thanks this. -

Sounds plausible to me, what the manager said. Pilot basically said, "It's all or nothing" ...
So, I guess it's nothing
SO ...
Does that mean that ALL FLYING J's will DIE now? -
I used to like Pilot, based on the one near my home, then I became a driver... I really dont like Pilot anymore, the bathrooms are for the most part nasty, and you wait in line forever to pay for anything. The only one I dislike more is TA, they gouge you on everything. But most Petros are ok, I dont get it, its the same company
Maybe TA/Petro will get to them, and make Flying J's Petros hehe
