Just replaced the starter with a 38mt during installation I broke the plastic housing on solenoid so obviously it still isn't working . No where in town has a 12v solenoid but I found a 24v solenoid. Can I replace the solenoid straight across with my truck being 12v or should I just change the housings out?

24 volt may not work.
Rideandrepair, Danh85 and wis bang Thank this. -
Is the old solenoid bad? Might get you going until a new one can be found. I read, a 24V won't work.
Rideandrepair and Danh85 Thank this. -
I read the same thing. Yes the plastic housing broke while installingRideandrepair Thanks this.

How would a 24 volt work with a 12 volt truck? It is pretty much impossible unless you can add 12 more volts somehow.Danh85, Rideandrepair and blairandgretchen Thank this.

So the old starter was a 39mt? Same solenoid? Maybe use the old. Unless you’re taking about the little relay “extra” solenoid on the 38mt. I think you might be able to bypass it, hook directly to regular solenoid till you get a new one.
Danh85 Thanks this. -
I meant 39mt. The plastic housing broke. I did get the 12v in last night ill be changing it at some point today. Hopefully I can leave the starter in while doing itRideandrepair Thanks this.

So after putting everything back together. Now it cranks slow I put a battery charger on it and then noticed my check engine light is not coming on only rhe engine shutdown light. Figured I'd let it charge a few hours and see. Already replaced the ecm wires from the battery double checked to make sure the connection was still good.
