Hello Mr. Chinatown,
Would you consider Western Trucking School to be the best, most reputable school in the Sacramento area?
Have you ever heard of a school in Rocklin, CA named GO4CDL? https://go4cdl.com
The most important thing to me is time behind the wheel. I studied for and got my permit on my own. I could probably do all the classwork on my own if I wanted to. It’s not about cost. It’s about finding a school where I can get the most experience possible actually driving a truck. I’ve even thought about finding a driver on the side who would allow me to get more driving experience in their rig. I don’t know if that’s legal. Do you have any ideas?
Thank You,Chinatown Thanks this. -
I wouldn't do the GO4CDL: CDL Truck Driving School Rocklin, Sacramento CA because it's only 80 hrs.
Most companies want anywhere from 120 hrs. to 330 hrs.
So, I'd go to Western Trucking School. Get all the endorsements while you're there.

I live in Rocklin, CA so the Western Trucking School in West Sacramento is about 40 to 45 minutes from my house. The only endorsements I was considering getting at this point were Hazmat and Tanker, both of those tests I passed in my permit process. I don’t know if there is another endorsement test I need to take when I test for my CDL.
Most of the trucking schools in the Sacramento area are in the $2500-$3000 range. Western Trucking School I believe is in the $5000 range. It would be worth it if it is the most reputable school in the area and I could get more time behind the wheel. -
Also get doubles/triples and TWIC.
You can probably get the cdl school paid for. WIOA Program California.
Ask the school about that.
Try to get stick shift training, otherwise you're restricted to automatic transmissions. Many local jobs have stick shift trucks.Last edited: Dec 30, 2022

What type trucking job do you want after school?

I guess I haven’t decided yet. I’ve been a technology consultant/engineer for the past 25 years, recently retired. I don’t need to work anymore but I’ve always wanted to do this. I’m not sure how picky I can be but I believe I can afford to be a little selective when it comes to a job. I don’t need to make a ton of money at this point. If I had my way I probably want a job with no touch or very little freight touch. I just turned 50 and I have a healthy back, I would like to keep it that way. Probably more of a regional or dedicated route position if I can get it. Being away from home one or two nights a week is fine but I don’t want to be away every night. We’ll see.Chinatown Thanks this.
