This is just kinda a follow up,

I recently talked with a schneider recruiter at job fair, they were nice and helpful and didn't seem to make any outlandish guarantees, seemed very professional. I had asked them off the record and showed them my MVR, I don't want to cause anyone any trouble, I'm just trying to get in somewhere and start working and build some experience. They looked it over and said they didn't think any of it would be any trouble. The DUI is too old for them to care about and I haven't had any other traffic violations. The suspension/revocation was taken care of and is not like I am in any trouble for it. That's what they said. I am not going to try to really apply until its been a full year since I got reinstated. I don't believe that Schneider of all the companies I've just delt with is gonna take me right now regardless of what that recruiter said.

I tried PTI, Covenant, PAM, and some others. PTI was the most helpful if at all, they hinted to the reason why no one would get back to me was not enough time driving on a regular drivers license and or to soon to apply after being reinstated, again, this was hinted at when I brought it up not when I immediately got off the phone and shut down by an email.

Western Express recruiter was trying hard to sell me on all kinds of bullcrap, I told her she can knock off the sales pitch, I know how I am going to be used there and just level with me, would they take me? Her attitude change and started talking to me like a normal person and said most likely they would reject me. I haven't been clear of it for 3 years yet (this number scared me, do I have to wait for these companies minimum DUI policies for 3, 5, 7 years after my reinstatement to try to get hired ?!?!?). But they would have me come all the way to orientation and then while I'm there shoot me down cause they don't start the background checks until your there, then your on your own to get home once they kick you out of orientation and "choose not to go with you", kinda like well, you should of known better before trying to work here! Thank god she told me that upfront and I didn't have to find out the hard way.

My friend thinks I can get this revocation/suspension off the MVR with an attorney, but from what I seen, here in Illinois this DUI sticks to you for ever and there is no expungement for it. I don't know if the revoc/suspension can be wiped out because of it being connected to it, I will talk to my lawyer about it.

I wish these companies would be straight forward with me and just tell me what I got to do and how long I got to wait or whatever, all this speculation is driving me insane because if I need to do something I would like to do it to fix this problem instead of being on dead time. All I can do is wait till February and start trying again till unless I hear something different. Thanks alot for all the info.

Recall earlier that I said I was a Schneider veteran.

You don't say what carriers you applied to earlier....but when you start to (re)apply for CDL jobs again in 2023--I would encourage you to apply to Schneider ONLY AFTER all else fails.

    Why?

If your experience there mirrors mine--your time out with a trainer will be short. MUCH TOO SHORT.

Other carriers will keep you on a trainers truck for much closer to the industry average.

Yes, I survived...it's true. And went on later to get a fuel-hauling job.

But I still don't think I can honestly recommend it for most people.

I think, given the coming economic recession, that you'd be far better off with another carrier, like Swift:

Swift Transportation Gary, IN Terminal - Swift Transportation

Also: be sure to avoid applying for jobs with A-N-Y of the 1099 companies. Start out in CDL life as a W-2 driver, instead!!!

Stay away from any/all "lease-purchase" contracts, as well.

For your first couple of years anyway....you just want to be a company driver--with no other related responsibilities.

I wanted to create a new thread for others in this same situation, but I didn't want to clog up the forum. Anyhow, I am seeing some CDL job placement companies and some of them seem real scammy, there were like 3 with different names that used the same type of web page and images. My question is are any of these legit and does anyone know of one that is legit? would they be a help to me to finding a CDL job with my issues?

Without specific names and/or website addresses--it's pretty tough to weigh in on what you were talking about in the above....:(

Your biggest issue now is really just a short time with a license. After February, try these people:

I don't trust places that do not know the right word to use.

Level of experience in one drop down list says...
I have more then 6 months experience.

I might be picking nits but; that has been on that site for how long, and no one has corrected it yet?

I've noticed misspelled words on lots of trucking websites. Sometimes, if I copy/paste some information, I'll correct the spelling. Even doing that, I misspell words sometimes.

Yes, but a company website should be able to get the grammar and spelling right.
They, after all, are the professionals that are seeking professional people.

I got a DWI/revoke in the late 90s and have been in the industry since the early two-thousands... Only been driving interstate for six+ years, though... My first company was union LTL which were the hardest to get in to at the time..

I know I'm late to this thread, but I DID once work in the office of a carrier that WOULD hire guys with DWI/DUI convictions. First, let me preface that we were a 48 state OTR company of roughly 500 tractors and 2000 trailers, and we did NOT have a very good reputation among drivers (in fact, when I was driving, I would never have even considered this company...). So, we needed drivers, and not many drivers were interested, so we took the chance and hired guys with DWI records.

I used to have access to each driver's file, and although they never said "DWI conviction" outright in the file, we all knew that when the comment "No Canada" was included, that meant you had a DWI (because Canada regularly refuses entry to anybody with a DWI conviction). Otherwise, we treated these drivers just as poorly as any other driver in the fleet....

So, yeah, you CAN find employment at some point after your DWI, but it will probably not be with the best carriers (BTW, that carrier I worked for went bankrupt almost 20 years ago...), and you will limit your usefulness if your carrier does any Canadian freight.
