    Hello friends,

I drive a kenworth t800 2012 with a Cummins isx . The coolant pressure become very high and it begins to forcefully come out the coolant breather. Engine temperature is normal.

Cummins isx 900000km driven 2012, if everything is working fine and just the head gasket is blown, should I get motor rebuild
Or just change the head gasket.

    Overhaul.

The root cause of the head gasket failure is likely much deeper than just the gasket itself. Replacing the gasket may correct the issue…..temporarily, but for how long.

Changing just the head gasket is like taking a shower and putting dirty underwear on. Do it once, take that cruise you've been hankerin' for while the motor is being rebuilt, you and the truck can return at full pace,,,

If…and I doubt it…there’s no other reason for it to let go other than old age, I would probably throw a new one on and see how much farther I can make it go assuming there’s no other reason for an o/h and the cylinder liners look ok. I would also be doing the work myself so it wouldn’t cost much to give it a try and I wouldn’t be counting on someone else’s judgement for how far to go. If it got me 2-300k more miles it would be worth it in my opinion.

Possibly could be the air compressor. It’s got engine coolant running through it too. Realistically it’s probably more likely to be the engine but worth checking first

How long you plan on keeping it and whether there’s other engine damage should play a part in how much you want to spend on it.. your spending a lot on labor as it is so the extra parts might only double the price of repair
