That's kinda bad. But not the end of the world. You can survive this. Here's how: what happened is called an 'incident' and not an 'accident'.
Accidents are serious. Incidents are not. If what happened is not DOT reportable or recordable, then it is an incident; an incident which only exists between you and Western Express.
Never mention this Incident to a prospective employer.
Make your rookie mistakes at the expense of Western Express. It's ok. They have more than earned that privilege. You are out there doing your best. Just be more careful and pay more attention.

In a perfect world we make no mistakes but in our imperfect world we have all made them. Be it a sighn you missed in the shadow of something or a misjudgement in a turn we all have made mistakes!
The key now is to learn from it and not let yourself be caught in the same thing again.
How bad was the damage?
Have you had any issues with this type situation before? If so give details and I'm sure someone can give some pointers to help.Flat Earth Trucker and Ktucker17 Thank this. -
Broke the person's taillight housing and some scratches on their bumper. Haven't had issues with hitting anything before but haven't been in tight of a space I was today.Lonesome and Flat Earth Trucker Thank this.

Just had a blow-up with my manager over everything. Highly disrespectful. Figuring out how they can get their $2500. Planning on dropping the truck off Monday. Can't do it with company. Wanna break my back to fill their pockets. Made more money at my last job just wanted to start a career in something I've wanted to do since I was a child. Western Express killed that. I'll keep y'all posted on what happens, but it's looking like this is one of the last updates.
CatchUp, TB John, Gearjammin' Penguin and 5 others Thank this. -
Sorry to hear this. Good luck with whatever life throws at you.
TB John, Flat Earth Trucker, mjd4277 and 2 others Thank this. -
I hope you don't give up on trucking. CRST fired me over two backing incidents and I had to pay those creeps in order to get a job with Western Express. It was hard to accept, but it ended up being worthwhile. Fortunately, Western Express wasn't near as bad then as they are today.
You mentioned that you had a conversation with your manager that was disrespectful. Unfortunately, disrespect is rampant in trucking. I cannot sugar coat that fact. It happens to most every driver out there. Even owner operators are disrespected vis a vis their rate contracts by unscrupulous brokers and other bullcrap.
When I finally got a job pulling food grade tanks, life became a lot easier. Management wasn't in such a rush about everything everywhere all the time.
Anyway, the loose moral of this spiel is that you can find a decent trucking company to work for. It is my hope that you don't let W.E. be an impediment to your boyhood dreams. -
I really appreciate it. I hope this isn't the end of the line for me in trucking either. I just can't do 6 days on the road with snacks for dinner and barely a chance to use a bathroom. It was already wearing me down, but to have my manager say he dgaf about me or what's happened to me, that I don't want to work (after constantly getting better every day I drive), that I should just go work at McDonald's, etc etc. It was nasty on both sides but again I put myself into debt to keep this going, im getting 0.46cpm and every week there's been an issue that has cut into me getting decent miles. I've been stretching myself since August and was hoping I could push through til April but this just broke the camel's back.Lonesome, Deleon, Flat Earth Trucker and 1 other person Thank this.

As a former WSXI goon I'm really sorry to hear that. Western Express is a horrible company. It's a doable gig if you already have trucking experience but need a second chance due to an accident or ticket, but it is a very, very, bad company for new drivers. There is almost zero support for drivers still finding their footing.
Whatever you decide to do next is up to you and I wish you the best, but if trucking was an old dream of yours don't let a bad experience at Western Express kill it. There are much better companies out there.
Edit: Missed your new post.
Most Western Express dm's are pretty bad & sounds like you got one of the worst bitter button pressers. Just remember at the end of it all, you'll be working somewhere else, either in trucking or elsewhere and that sad bitter little piece of poop will still be working at Western Express.Last edited: Jan 6, 2023
