I did the legal paperwork to give my wife power of attorney for the period of one year while we were having a house constructed. She was able to sign my name on legal documents while I was out driving. Yes, you have to trust your wife. It worked out well for me.

This was in 2006. It may have been a thing back then, but was not widely used. I had a flip phone.

I bought a house when I was working in Iraq. Gave Power-of-Attorney to my then GF and she took care of most of it. There were some forms I had to sign and then overnight (was actually 2 nights from there) back to Texas, but that's all it took.

I bought my house while OTR. Real estate agents and mortgage broker etc were all aware I would be on the road for weeks at a time and wouldn't be able to "pop in" to sign papers etc. The seller didn't even live in this country so was even more remote than I was.

I had a printer on the truck with me so anything that couldn't be viewed and signed electronically, I printed out from email attachments and "wet" signed before being mailed back.

If you don't have a smart phone with internet access, I imagine things would be a bit more tricky.

If you’re a full-time OTR driver and you’re single such as I am, set up your life to be a minimalist as much as possible. You’re just not gonna be home enough to justify all the expenses. Now I have a little cottage place but it doesn’t cost me much. Maybe $500 a month for taxes insurance upkeep and everything else. I paid cash for it. Honestly I’m there about four days a month. Lol probably not even worth it at $500 a month.

but it is a place I can call home, keep my stuff at, have a lady friend over from time to time, cook my own food, do my laundry, and at least a few days a month sleep in a big giant king size bed.

If you’re single, just get yourself a little tiny piece of property with maybe a tiny home on it, I’m modular home, something you can pay cash for within a year or two and then just save your money and go enjoy your life. Travel, go overseas chasing women around, whatever your fancy is. Life is too short to be an over the road truck driver and have $5000 a month worth of bills to keep up with. That never made any sense to me. Some of you do it, but I don’t know why.

You need to plan ahead a little, but I didn't have a problem doing it. House hunt on the weekends, then its all phone work until the inspection and closing and you can easily schedule around work.

bought my first and current house in 1990. I was only home on weekends and the wife did all of the paper crap.

she was a paralegal, so she knew what was what.

I got home read and signed stuff left again.

realtor could only come on Sat., on Sunday I usually was leaving out again.

A few years ago a driver bought a 4-plex which consisted of 2 apartments on first floor and two apartments on second floor. He lived in one and rented the other 3.
