Hello guys hope all is well. I have Detroit Diesel series 60 12.7 in my freightliner classic. There's a airline dangling not connected anywhere. Can you look at picture I attached and see what's the purpose of this airline. Picture is for reference and not my truck.![]()

Air line for engine fan. Runs from Solenoid to bottom of fan. Is your fan running all the time, or not at all? Was it disconnected on purpose because the fans bad and leaking air? Probably. The lines probably crimped or capped off, so it doesn’t leak air.

Fan's working fine. There's another line going to the fan. This line seemed to be connected to gear housing.Rideandrepair Thanks this.

That’s strange. Usually the air line for the fan is routed through the gear cover holes as shown on yours. I see the fan air line, on your fan. Maybe follow both, check the routing. Looks like someone just left the old line in place. One end shoved into the front cover hole. It’s going nowhere. That’s just a sleeve. Other ends probably also going nowhere, used to be hooked up to the fan solenoid.

I think that's a good observation that they probably just rerouted it.
With that being said I would follow however they rerouted it then make sure that it's secure and it won't chafe and it's not going to give you any problem.
And since you're talking about something that's alternative and we can't look at your vehicle or see how it's working, I would just double check to make sure that they didn't run an airline to somewhere that your fan is always turning or that you have to manually toggle it.
The fan circuit on those trucks was controlled by its own control module and often it goes bad and a quick fix is to just jump air from somewhere else.Rideandrepair and Trukdrvr Thank this. -
I see. I guess they ran another airline from solenoid to fan and cut this one off. Everything seems to be working fine. I guess I'll trace the line back to the firewall and see where it goes inside the truck. Thanks for your help guys.
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
It probably won’t go inside the Truck since it originally ran to the solenoid. Just pull it out, probably not hooked to anything.
Trukdrvr Thanks this.
