Ya, .4 isn't guaranteed. It's a carrot to get you to act right.

Well I guess they come a long way. I think they used to pay 25 cents a mile to non experienced drivers, or that is what I had heard. Last time I worked with Swift in 2012, I was getting 33, I think. Any company that doesn't have an apu just about is going to hound you about idle time. The real kicker is the ones that say "oh we don't care if you idle", and then say "we dont pay the first 50 miles of deadhead because of that" like they are doing you a favor.

Gotta’ start somewhere, is the way I look at it. And, nice equipment will make it a lot more palatable.

Reefer gets a bad rap, on this forum. My favorite employer and job was reefer. However, the company, Dot Foods, is a food distributor who haul their own stuff. That’s a lot different and WAY better than a transportation company. But, reefer is good experience, for down the road. If you get some time under your belt, you can go about anywhere.

Look, I’d suggest you fill out the Dot Foods online application. They have a terminal in Fort Worth. You have nothing to lose. I know they have some stiff criteria. However, they are loosening up a bit, as they try to build their driver pool. This DFW location is new for them, so you just might be able to get in the door. They were awesome to me. If I wouldn’t have gotten sick, I’d still be there.

Funny enough my best friend is a food sales rep for DoT foods. I was supposed to have a job lined up with them out of Huntsville TX when I finished CDL school contingent on open positions. The economy slowed and they stopped hiring, so no job for them.

Huntsville is about an hour North from me. Saginaw is about 4 hours.

Don’t give up! Their business fluctuates with the economy, such that, when people slow their eating out, grabbing stuff from convenience stores, etc, things can slow down. However, they’re making huge strides in diversification, where they’re now selling to big retailers, like Target. DFW/TX are a huge market for them. With how many people move into that state everyday, that market might be more impervious to slow downs. Fill out that online application. Ask your buddy if you can use him for a reference, as that helps a bunch. Dot Foods thrives, because of good, quality people. They view applicants, who are associated with current employees, above random applicants. Fill out that online application. Got it? Fill out that online application. If you get on with them, it’ll be one of the better decisions you’ll ever make. Events like this don’t happen, unless a place is worthwhile:
