It looks good to me. You’re right tho the further apart the splices the better.

I have also found some of the wood thickness can vary by 1/8 or so. Sometimes just due to wear. I have routed out the bottom on the wood for the crossmembers to get it level.

Maybe I could cheat, and place a full shim on top of the cross members. Have to be full contact, for full support, as raise the area up level. It’s a thought. Just only have so much time to spend on any given job. Always some other priority that needs done.

Sintra is great for shimming, it comes in a few different sizes. 2mm, 3mm, 6mm and is very dense and will not have any issues with moister. Would work perfect for shimming that up and can be bought on Amazon as well. Normally it comes in 4x8 sheets but sure a lot of off fall is sold from scrap.

You’ll wind up breaking a lot of screws. Those self drilling screws are designed for little more than sheet metal. They can’t handle the thickness of trailer crossmembers. Trust me, I’ve tired it before, trying to do a quick repair.

I would read what others are using cuz when i did it used a corded variable speed drill. Cordless impact would be much easier I would think

I used cord instead of cordless, it was smooth like butter.
