Is it just me making a random observation or does it seem like every company listed in this forum ALSO has:

    1. Trucks governed at a low speed that prohibits the engine from reaching its maximum efficiency and potential.

    2. Has its entire fleet equipped with a GPS type 2-way communication device. (such as quallcomm)

    3. Is rarely owned by a family, even though some were once formed by a family... They are now owned by shareholders, which in many cases are other similar trucking companies.

    4. Think they are doing drivers a favor by their "liberal" home time policy. Such as 1 day home for every 7,8,9 or 10 days out.

    5. Advertises in EVERY free little magazine that is on the rack next to the door leading to the fuel island and often are found on the bathroom floor next to the toilet in major truckstop (sorry, travel center) chains. So ... Who are the shareholders of the publishers of said freebee mags?? And, do these shareholders also own stock in every major newspaper in the country? Hence, these same companies also advertise in the Sunday classifieds.

    6. Have a current (or once had) their own CDL driving school to gleen employees from. (Or affilliated with driving schools)

These are just some thoughts to ponder as we all look for the proverbial "greener grass." Many of these companies even run a lot of the same equipment that, when stripped of their name and decals, are completely identical. Please, voice your thoughts regarding this. I want a thoughtful yet respectful debate over this, as I am really interested in what others think of these "points to ponder".

Remember... The truth is a HARD pill to swallow.

    Thank you!

Those little magazines are a joke, nothing but cover-to-cover ads. Even the articles are ads. I read one article about driver back pain, but half-way thru the article slyly turned into an advertisement for a company that made driver seats!

The really sad part is that there must be some really dumb drivers out there that are influenced by them, or they wouldn't exist in the first place.

Some of those ads are beyond ridiculous. Like the one where the the driver is going down the road with so much $$$ in the truck that he dont even have room to drive. That one, and the one with the giant recliner as a tractor are my all time favorites.:biggrin_2559:

I've often wondered how much a churning company pays for ads in all of those magazines, and if only a part of it was spent on driver pay instead, what effect it would have on their turnover rate.

It never made sense to me to have trucks governed at a sub speed limit speed, with 9 or 10 speeds, so they have to drop a gear as soon as they come to the slightest grade, that's can't be that fuel efficient.

NW BOOGEYMAN, Dude, I've said this a million times over the years. Switching companies isn't the answer. Nothing changes, except the name on the truck, you still haul freight, deal with shippers/consignees, drive your arse off, never get home, get ripped off by management, But, it's in your blood forever. You can't walk away from it. It's an addiction, you gotta have your "fix" daily. You know I'm right....

The best company my husband ever worked for never advertised in any way. All he had was a handpainted od sign out front that said "Drivers needed"... and he was always telling his newb drivers that he was not a career company, he was just a stepping stone to better things.... LMAO!! If he hadn't closed his doors, we would still be there. As it is now, his daughter has re-opened, and this 24 year old girl has a WAITING list of drivers wanting to drive for her... she's just like her Daddy..:biggrin_25514:

I know exactly what it is... It's called the mistress... The Mistress Called the Road!! MD Morgan has a video documentary out by that title, it's my favorite video. You need to see it. There is no better feeling than driving off into the sunset with just the right music playing... Or sometimes no music at all. Or maybe watching a sunrise as you're starting your journey. I've been doing this for 22 years, I'll probably never tire of it. I tried stepping away from it and went into law enforcement, although I loved being a police officer, something was missing... So, I'm back as a company driver, albeit a small company, I'm working my way BACK to being an independent owner operator. It sounds like you and I were cut from the same mold!!! Highest regards to you my brother!!
