I think both of them need to consider this possibility. -
Yes, i think maybe it was.
Anyhow my point before that was simply that unless the weigh station has that sign, you dont have to go in....thats why EVERY weigh station in the country EXCEPT that one in WY has a similar sign. And you get yelled at for going to that one and interrupting the scalemasters nap, which proves my point.
i wonder though.....what if i run that sign over? does the truck behind me have to go in?
and I think that sign is a replacement. That sign definitely was NOT there the last time i was in OH. -
Actually, if you're driving a CMV heavy enough to meet the miniumum requirements - unless you have a PrePass or Norpass green light, you're required to go into every OPEN weigh station in the country. They get a mighty good chunk of your dead presidents if you decide to blow by, and the bears take exception to that.

and all weight requirements are set by the state anyway. for example in michigan, the gross weight is 160k. Michigan mostly goes after under-registered intrastate trucks anyhow. Like, 24k plates on an 80k truck, 80k plates on a 160k truck, etc. People do it all the time up there, DMV cant really enforce it at the counter.
The other day i got a red light on prepass. But the weigh station was closed. I wonder how many people on this thread are going to tell me i was supposed to go in that scale. -
Yeah like phroziac said. WY is different.
Casper, Torrington and Lingle have different rules. Just because those three scales have a sign saying where they are does not mean you have to enter them. Depending on your direction of travel at two of them. -

Few months ago in Louisanna on I-10 going east bound, scale house no open or closed sign on, two DOT cars in the lot. I went right on by..... 3 min later two police cars riding real close to my trailer.... probably getting the plate number.... scared the crap out of me... all day I was wondering they never stopped me.
First time going through SD I rolled through the scale, they had no signage saying to stop, rolled through 3mph and got the red light. Walked in and he said first time in SD yes sir I said, In SD u stop before the going on the scale. He smiled told me drive safe and sent me on my way.
Montana... I was stopped four times in one day. I run legal 99% of the time. I flagged each stop in my log book took the white fish shortcut thought I was home free... portable scales!! Weighed in they checked my log book and off I went. Few hours later stopped again. Pulled over for a random inspection. He told me good job driver you flagged all your DOT stops have a nice day and off I went. I was scared to stop for coffee after that! LOL.
Some where out west cant remember where.... driving almost the full 11 hours up all night smoking and drinking coffee I was red lighted went in to the scale office, after I popped a few breath mints. He gave me a little trouble he could smell the mints on me and started looking real close at my eyes and kept talking to here my speech, wondering if I was drinking and driving... 10 min later he let me go.
New Jersey.... I-95 going into PA... rest area weigh scale... hardly ever open caught me off guard ALL TRUCKS MUST ENTER portable sign flashing, I didn't have my first stop logged yet, I pulled over before the scale through my map on the sterring wheel my log book on my lap fixed it and DOT shows up on my step what are you doing he said? I was stopping here to check my map, but you guys have the rest area blocked so I stopped here, he said ok driver lets move it up. Four DOT guys standing in a row looking at me as I drove by... making me sweat a bit.
Maine, most guys have trouble up there I heard... I was pulled for a random got the clean bill of health and off I went, DOT even checked my route to the saw mill and helped me get there... not bad.
Texas, pulled for a random, wrote a warning for a cracked amber trailer blinker, which a fork truck driver hit the day before... he checked out my log book one page only... thumbed through the rest real fast and told me like your logging nice and neat... which I think helps me from DOT checking to close.
Michigan, I was red lighted they wanted my BOL, I was hauling fish had 15 stops, watched them add up each BOL and cleared me. -
