If you can't see it around the shank, it's not hooked.

Also, please clean the dry crud off the jaws.

I would put it OOS, it isn't safe, it looks like it may have been replaced at one time and improperly done.

I have found that if something does not feel right, it usually aint. "They" were debating weather to put it OSS and it "never feels right" to you sounds like there might be an issue with it.

More than likely this is the case, I don't know if you could tell but this is an intermodel chassis so if you can't find something
broken on it then something's really really wrong

Lol pretty much. Were you at a rail yard? If they were thinking of rad tagging it you probably should have had it flipped especially if it was a kingpin issue.

You high pinned it. Crank down the landing gear, then dump the air on the tractor suspension. I'll wager that you will be able to pull away from the trailer without releasing the fifth wheel, which is what would likely happen if you tried pulling it down the road like it is.

I don’t think it’s high pinned. There’s no gap between fifth wheel surface and upper coupler plate. It Almost looks like there’s buildup blocking the view or the bottom part of the pin or did the bottom part of the pin shear off

I'll collect my winnings now. For the future a tell tale sign weather or not it's a high hook is a gap between fifth wheel and trailer.

We did try dropping and hooking three times using various methods and locations just to say we tried it , because I'm sure you know how some mechanics and dispatchers can be.

Turns out a whole series of chassis has this issue, wonder what's going to happen... We also didn't even get a fleet wide message about it so most of the drivers don't even know this is a issue. (A lot are newer drivers who just tug test.).

You are right! I'll have to pay up. Upon closer examination of the picture that is truly weird. You get major props for seeing it. Most people now days don't even go through the motions of a pre trip.
