When 5177 is the only code the only solution per Cummins is to replace the actuator. If there were other actuator related codes then those should be resolved first before replacing the actuator.

I have replaced more X15 actuators in one year than I have replaced on all other ISX models combined over my 20 + years of shop ownership. Positive note: I rarely replace an X15 turbo for the sector shaft being "locked up"
Josiah Harder and jimmycrackcorn Thank this. -
What's the bill on an actuator and labor typically?
-
Thanks for that info. Where do you find that information?
-
Mine cost 4000 CAD for part and labour but I got a remanned actuator. Brand new they were quoting me 4000 CAD alone for the part

Dug it up on the net. The Cummins free stuff is piecemeal and not easy to find. Dealer/shops use Cummins Insite which cost 1 - 1.5k. That has the software for a laptop that connects to the truck to get codes, data....
There is Cummins quickserve. QSOL = Quick Serve Online
Free QSOL Accounts provide the same UNRESTRICTED access to repair information, engine wiring diagrams and troubleshooting guides for your Cummins engine.
I have not tried that yet and find it hard to believe but that is what he states on the website above.Josiah Harder Thanks this. -
I created a Quick serve online account and its true you can look up any fault code or symptom and find troubleshooting guides. Very helpfulJB7 Thanks this.

I've gotten a second code early on but this is the typical one.

I looked it up on Cummins quick serve online and that 6713 isnt the specific fault code but rather a circuit in which 3 different faults could take place in. 1 of those is the 5177 fault that I had and the other 2 are software and calibration issues. You'll know if it's the same as mine if your truck gives an amber check engine warning because the other 2 faults will give you a red shut off engine warning it says
