Massive rock slide closes I40 at TN/NC state line

    If you happen to be following this thread looking for encouraging news as to when I-40 might reopen, I just saw the referenced story on the website of a local news channel ....

    I-40 Rock Slide Could Be Cleared by Late April

    The DOT blamed the later opening date on the "incredibly harsh winter." (It had originally be scheduled to open by March, 2010.)

    The story went on to say that even when it does reopen, about one mile of the westbound lane closest to the mountain will remain closed until the summer so crews can finish installing rock bolts and anchor mesh at the five additional sites.

    Is the mountain back open yet? last i went thru there over 2 months ago it was closed. thanks??

    no, they're still workin on it. google I40 rockslide. The NCDOT has daily updates.

    they are saying it is suppose to be opening back up sometime around the end of april

    I hope so, cause that I26 isnt really much fun with a 47,000 lb coil strapped to your back...Thanks for the info yall
