Hazmat test

What gets me is the "Endorsement" is considered "Qualification"
Correctly Answering 80% of 25 questions hardly makes one "Qualified"

The charges for a background check that takes 3-5 weeks for validation,a State Trooper can do in 5-10 min on the side of the road.

 

I believe the OP's question had to do with Hazmat Questions, It will depend on your States Commercial Driver Manual.

Here in Va. All 25 questions came right out of that book. as to the cost, it was $25.00 for the test, which if you passed the endorcement was put on your license, (this is for renewels) but you had to be fingerprinted and submit to a backround check thats another $85.00. If something was determand to be a problem you were notified that your Hazmat endorcement has been revoked.

they do that for people re-newing thier licence so they may continue to work without restrictions.

If you do not currently hold a Hazmat endorcement they may not add it untill those backround checks are complete.

It doesn't with us. It will only get you in the door if you met a bunch of other requirements. If your company goes on the fact that an endorsement makes one qualified then the CDL should allow then a job also since they're qualified there too. Those are the companies that I run from.

 

JB12, I'm not saying you're stupid. Hell, I don't know you atall. But i'm concerned about your attitude: especially given the "audience" in this forum.... new drivers.

Sure, there are regsd that are "inconvenient", but consider that when you circumvent you are not just risking your own safety but that of others too. Things like stopping at RR crossings are to develop a safety "habit" in general.

Oh well, nothing I or anyone else can say is going to convince you. Maybe one day we'll be seeing you under a "What the Hell was he thinking?" heading.

 

I never said I don't follow the rules - clearly I have to. It would be convienient to toss a box of inhalation hazard in a wagon, slam the door, and forget about it but that would be insane and not only risk my job but probably jail time also. I never once said I don't follow the rules, I just find many of them silly.

Not sure how people somehow are thinking I don't follow them from what I've said. If I have to go around the tunnels I go around the tunnels and so on - just don't think it makes any sense.

 

Jakebrake think about it on going around a tunnel with Hazmat. The effects from Hazmat are maginified in a confined space if there is an accident. Also the Regs were wriiten because somebody was stupid with the stuff. Also most of reactions were discovered by someone actually mixing chemicals to see what would happen or by accident.

 

Once again, I'm not sure how some people are thinking I somehow don't follow the regs because I don't like them. Thems the rules so I always follow them - 100% of the time whether I like them or not.

It was probably lost in some of the stupid stuff I said, but my example of what can and can't go through a tunnel makes no sense. I can't take an empty tote through the tunnel, but I can take 40 drums weighing roughly 20,000 lbs full of Hazmat liquid through it because it's not considered bulk packaging whereas the empty tote is.

 

Actually the endorsement isn't considered qualification . The driver must also be certified through training by the employer that has to be renewed every 3 years .

 

This is what I am currently doing right now. The area I work in does not haul hazmat right now. We do have a couple of LNG tanks that we need hazmat to haul from one place to another. We always farmed that work out though. I am still debating if I really want the endorsment that I have.
