Okay! Good advice.
In process of searching tanker in area stumbled across western dairy. Been eyeballing them for awhile. No driver facing cameras. No northwest . Ppm is a little low .53 but big miles promised (Yada Yada yada). I made application anyway. What the heck.

Western Dairy Transport?
From what I have learned of them--the ugliest part of that job.....will likely be long wait times (not often--but they will happen) while you sit in a line of other trucks to (for example) load, or unload cream.
Thus--make sure their detention pay is in fact satisfactory for you.
My fear is that they won't pay you anything for that...until after the first hour or two.
Then it will be something like $15/hr, or similar.
Past that--I think that WDT is probably as good a way as any to go into the tanker side of the business, for where you're located (assuming you haven't done tanker before--if you have, please....do excuse my ignorance
).
Since that's food-grade tanker duty--do expect (regardless of your previous experience) to spend some time with a trainer learning "their way" of how to load/unload the trailer. Also--be prepared to "work the trailer" in less than inviting weather conditions.
If I were the betting type--if you get an offer from them....and you take it....my money says that ....later on, you'll be glad you did.

Does it seem reasonable to have to request hometime a full 2 weeks in advance? That's what my wfx manager insists on and that seems excessive to me.

It depends on their running lanes. I've always been one to put in a request at least 2 weeks in advance. If you live in the path of a frequent freight lane, then it may be easier for them to get certain drivers home. It they live a little ways outside of the typical freight lanes you may have to give your dispatcher more advance notice.ducnut, Lonesome, Dale thompson and 2 others Thank this.

Seems excessive to me. Hope it works out with no cams in your face. But more and more companies are putting those in so I wouldn’t get comfortable anywhere these days as it seems until the inevitable safety meeting where they announce we’re putting in cameras.
I got out of the company driver game because it seems I couldn’t shake those things too long before they’d put in the cams and I’d have to find yet another job that didn’t have them.ducnut, BennysPennys, Lonesome and 2 others Thank this. -
When I was otr I got in the habit of putting in for hometime as soon as I came out of hometime.unloader, ncmickey, austinmike and 5 others Thank this.

Ugh. I'm already hating job hunting again. It seems every company's reviews are filled with horror stories.

I just hate filling out the 10 years of job history. Takes me forever. I am a runner, as in I run away from most jobs
