And here I am not willing to touch a paccar with a ten foot pole lol. My 2020 x15 has been mediocre, but the paccar 579s the company I work purchased the past three years have been in the shop constantly. The pre 2020s that they own have actually done quite a bit better. I’m in the process of ordering a Mack. The guys I work with that have Mack/Volvo have done really well the past couple years. That’s before figuring in the $40k+ price difference between Mack and Pete.

I’m tempted to try a Mack too, but I really don’t want to go back to pulling big loads with a 13 liter 505/1850. But I hear they are dependable.

What ever happened to the new Paccar engine plans they had about 10 yrs ago. Supposed to be a drastic design. 2 or 3 opposed piston design. Roughly 200 hp. Supposedly they were to be stackable. 1 for a light duty, 2 for medium,3 for Class 8’s. Sounded like it was going to revolutionize Diesel’s. Never heard any more about them. I forget all the details, but sounded pretty good.

I hope you’re right, I have a Western Star 57X that should be delivered in a couple of weeks. It’ll be my first Detroit in 20 years.

Haven’t had good luck with the D13 (Volvo/Mack) engine myself, but the transmission with the crawler gears is fantastic. Engine light is on all the time, been like that since new, reappears hours after leaving dealers. $30k out of pocket into engine alone so far, 2019. Maybe a lemon, I don’t know. Would dump the truck if I thought I could actually get a new one.

What's not to like about the trucks they come in? They have the best parts network. The trucks themselves are not bad when they're not cheap spec'd by a mega fleet that doesn't care about driver comfort. The one I'm in has 525k on the odo and has a tight, quiet cab. It's not the rattle trap pile of plastic crap I expected, that's for sure.
