I really liked it. Never got stranded either, because if a reefer load wasn't available, my dispatcher would give me a dry load.
Reefer load out of Florida everglades to Ohio, and the quickest load out of there was a hazmat load of cans of spray paint going to Los Angeles, CA. I always kept my hazmat endorsement just for this situation.
Delivered in Los Angeles and got a load of canned beans to El Paso, Texas. From there a load of ceramic tile to Jacksonville, FL.
Load of Florida tomatoes to California and another load of a different type of tomatoes back to Florida.

 

If you go to a mega for your training and you leave before your contract is up they don't actually throw you in jail or anything. You might get a strongly worded letter with an invoice in the mail someday. I don't even think they can hit your credit report for those contracts.

 

I’ve heard of horror stories about abandoning the contract and having the company not even giving a good reference or marking your DAC report bad.

basically, you need to have a job before you quit an existing job with the contract. I know for sure at Schneider it is six months for you to finish a contract if you go to their school.

 

This isn't really like other industries where you need to establish good references to give to prospective employers. Once you leave a trucking company the only thing you need from them down the road is for them to verify your work history. Might not even need that if you keep your W2s. Your value as a potential employee pretty much is based solely on the length of your experience and your driving record. Even if they went out of their way to note on your DAC that you didn't complete their scam contract that would hardly be a barrier for employment anywhere.

The debt is sold to a collection agency.
I advise drivers to pay the debt with a credit card, then throw the credit card away so it isn't used anymore.

 

College is the way to do it IMO. When I got my license I actually spent every hour in the truck, none of that standing around waiting an hour to spend 5 minutes trying to back through some cones BS.

 

When the mega turns over your outstanding debt to a collection agency your credit will be seriously degraded.
