My dad got into a wreck a few weeks ago. He works for a ltl company and got caught in a blizzard on his run. There was 2 semis parked in the middle of the freeway and he didn't see them in time due to whiteout conditions and icy roads. He ended up rear ending one. He was doing 25-30 mph. He sat on the freeway for 12 hrs before being brought to the terminal he was heading to. He called 911 to have a trooper come out but one never showed up. So no police report was ever filed on the accident. He couldn't take pictures because it was dark out and couldn't see anything. The driver of the truck he hit was sleeping in his truck. There was a tow truck that was sitting behind them and he seen the whole thing and went up to the other truck and woke the guy up. The guy never got out of his truck and went back to bed. There was also no one in front of the 2 semis. There was a big 7 mile back up a mile ahead of those 2 trucks. Needless to say my dad got let go. But wasn't due to the accident. He was let go because of safety procedures. Because a report wasn't filed by the state patrol and no pictures were taken. The terminal manager went and took pics of the truck after they towed it to freightliner. Also central dispatch knew the freeway was closed and never called him to tell him prior to him getting up there.

My dad has been turned down by other companies because there is no report of the accident. The terminal manager told my dad that the state patrol would contact him within 10 but no one ever did. So what can he do? Does he not put the accident on applications because there is no report? Is the company gonna just sweep it under the rug so it doesn't affect there safety record? What about his dac report? Will it be reported to it? He did order a copy of his dac report. This is such a screwed up situation because of how it all played out. It's not his fault the state patrol didn't come out.

If the road was closed, he was driving at his own risk…meaning there would be no highway patrol or rescue or anything.

It was too dark for pictures? No, back off and snap your pictures with the flash on and the flash will light up all reflective strips and road signs.

The trucks sitting in the road, did they have marker lights or emergency flashers on? Did they exchange info? If a wrecker was involved, there has to be substantial damage to the other truck.

BTW, it isn’t central dispatch’s responsibility to notify of road closures. And yes, the accident will be on record.

When he applies for new jobs, he'll have to explain why he was fired.

"I slid on black ice and hit a stopped truck that was stopped in the travel lane; no one thought it was severe enough to report it. No police, no reports.
My company towed my truck back to the terminal, then fired me."

He should apply with 2nds chance companies. Submit online applications before calling. Don't call first or he'll never find a job.
    Where is he located; Minnesota?

Contact the State Patrol and file an accident report. Next the company may be in trouble for not requiring a drug test. The company may not want an accident report as it damages their safety rating. Get a report from Hireright and see what is listed, if incorrect info is listed, you have the right to file a complaint. Also in a month or two all the construction companies will be looking for drivers again. Please give the location so people can assist in job alerts.

The 3rd sentence in the OP's post says it all. "Driving in white-out conditions on icy roads". Why ? ? ? A good driver knows when to shut down. The 2 clowns parked in the travel lanes (and 1 was sleeping) were idiots. I suspect Pops was eager to get home. Lesson learned.

No he wasn't on his way home. He was on his Linehaul run trying to get to the terminal. He doesn't have a sleeper he has a daycab so he can't just stop. Plus no where to stop
