What's the cattle prod for? Keeping the lot lizards away??musicmaker said: ↑I have a flare gun in the truck. Does that count?... Oh yeah and a cattle prodClick to expand...

you'll get in bigger trouble for carrying a facsimile gun (flare gun) in your truck than you will for a real one, might as well carry some real protection.
while the bill of rights grants firearm protection for all citizen (soon even chicago, march 2nd chicago's gun law is going to the supreme court, I am sure it will be overturned.) most states have very very strict guidelines for facsimile guns, which includes flare guns in non marine applications, also electric pulse generating weapons in most states (and michigan for sure) such as cattle prods (unless your a livestock hauler maybe? I dunno the law here, but I'd bet it would have to be locked tighter than your gun, and only out for unloading) are class two felonies. -
Ive never heard of any laws for cattle prods and have had on since the 70's. No one has ever said anything about it and thats a lot of dot checks since the 70's. The flare gun is in the sleeper just in case. I never go to MI so I'm ok I suppose

It is very obvious that you southern drivers have a love affair for weapons and that is your right however, up North, the NY, NJ, PA, CT area when i worked for the US DOT we were required if we saw a weapon in plain site to contact the State Police. When i said give a driver hell, i understood that to mean to question the driver in depth. I don't nor have i ever had it out for drivers. But when i feel my life may be at risk, i will do what i need to do when my safety is at risk. So if you southern boys come up north let it be known there is no reciprocity.
Keep your weapons at home.....
Disturbed said: ↑Excellent post. In 14 years of working the worst ghetto in our jurisdiction, on the 12th largest police department in this country, I have yet to EVER have a problem with a citizen carrying under a concealed carry permit. Neither has any officer I have ever spoken to. That being said, if someone informs me they are carrying, I will disarm them for the duration of the stop, check that they have a permit, and finish my business with them before returning their gun to them unloaded. I ask them not to reload until I have left the scene. I also am far more likely to use my discretion by not scratching paper and letting them head down the road with a warning, if they are straight up with me about being armed.
I have been known to have conversations with people I stop that are carrying a particularly nice gun. What can I say? I have a soft spot for Wilson 1911's
On a side note, I have yet to stop a thug carrying a Glock, H&K, Sig, or any other reputable firearm. Most are packing, Lorcins, Jennings, Davis, or Hi-Points.Click to expand... -
i can see drivers wanting to protecting themselves, but with the way they always try to kill each other on the c.b.....scary!

Here is where you are wrong in a sort. You are correct for reciprocity of the concealed weapon permit however, there is a federal provision that allows us to transport our weapons across state lines . Now in order for it to be legal, the weapon must be unloaded and locked in a secured box in a compartment seperate from the driver. If the driver has done that, there is nothing you can do about it, he is obeying the laws. Now as far as someone keeping a weapon in plain sight, that is just stupidity on their part, there is no reason for that kind of exposure. I am an ex LEO and knowing the law fully (that you intend to inforce) is the reponsibility of the officer. If you take action against someone who is fully in accordance with the law, you will open yourself up to a personal lawsuit, as you have violated their rights. I have personally witnessed an officer overstep his boundarys and watched him loose time at work, etc. trying to defend his actions. When the plantiff took the case to a civil court, he won due to the officers neglegence and it cost him big time. Nothing the department could do about it as it was a civl suit. They crammed that stuff down our throats religiously so we knew what we could and could not do. I suggest for your own protection and knowledge that you do the same. It is definitely a good CYA measure. Good luck to you and please be safe, there are a lot of crazies out there that think the laws do not pertain to them... always keep your gaurd up!Motor Carrier Inspector said: ↑It is very obvious that you southern drivers have a love affair for weapons and that is your right however, up North, the NY, NJ, PA, CT area when i worked for the US DOT we were required if we saw a weapon in plain site to contact the State Police. For anyone that thinks it's illegal to have a firearm in a CMV. I got a level 3 inspection at the Kanab, Utah POE on 2/22/10. I walked in with my firearm in its holster on my side. I showed the officer my CFP along with the other information required. She asked if I was armed and I said yes. That was the end of it. No hassle, no worries, and no violations.

FYI, PA is a reciprocity state with the NC CCW permit......Motor Carrier Inspector said: ↑It is very obvious that you southern drivers have a love affair for weapons and that is your right however, up North, the NY, NJ, PA, CT area when i worked for the US DOT we were required if we saw a weapon in plain site to contact the State Police.

It isn't about a love affair with a weapon, how rediculous of a comment that is.
It's about not having to be defensless and getting to go home to our loved ones once our work is done. I once had to lay on the ground with a gun to the back of my head during a Robbery. There was nothing I could do but pray. I don't intend to be in that situation ever again, this was back in 1996. The place I was in didn't allow guns at the time, I wonder how the man commiting the crime got past the "no guns allowed" sign at the door?!!!!! To me that was a criminal protection zone.
NY, CT, and NJ aren't gun friendly states and I realize that. NH and VT are and they do have reciprocity with the NC permit also.
What do you know, even further north than the states you mentioned? I guess it's not just a southern thing after all? 38 states are in reciprocity with my permit, I don't think all 38 fit into the southern area either, Some are NW......It isn't just southern drivers.....
I wonder why crime is worse in the areas that ban guns than in areas where law abiding citizens may carry protection?
