I've heard about guys going that. Something else we used to do, along time ago you could rent a big U-Haul truck for $19.99.

Every now and again a 40K coil would pop up that needed covered expedited, but id all ready be loaded. So I'd park my semi truck and take a taxi over to the U-Haul rental place and rent the biggest straight truck they had. The scales or DOT never messed with me. They never messed with the U-Haul trucks at all. Those expedited coils paid bank.

Uhaul has flats capable of 40k coils? I thought you'd need to go to Ryder or Penske to get something beefy enough. Did you just get a box truck and have them huck the coil in the back?

Seems like as long as the Uhaul had the EZ loading ramps, you would only need a little momentum with it sitting on some furniture dollies that had solid casters. Maybe bolt a winch to the floor and pull it up.

Put a couple cinch straps in front to stop forward movement and a decent sized wheel chock behind it rigged to a pulley and rope ready to drop like a cattle pot door to prevent rollback.

Sounds like a setup for a LiveLeak video from China.

That cheap uhual rental is going to get expensive when you have to buy the truck cause you destroyed the frame putting 54k in a 26k GVWR truck

So define what you mean by "capable"?

Here's the thing, you may not realize this, but the big U-haul trucks are basically class 8 trucks with F450 components. The rears are 40k Eatons with 19.5 low pro tires and wheels to give it a less intimidating look to potential renters. Yes it's kinda shady, but it's a sales gimmick that works. They will pretty much handle any loads you put on them.

Case in point, I used to haul mobile homes. I did alot of site drops and I got tired of using my semi in some of the crappy places I'd go. Constantly running over stuff in people's yards, getting stuck blowing differentials out and tearing up tires. Not to mention it's tight getting around some of those places. I got the idea to rent a U-Haul for some of those particular sites. I'd charge $1000 to move the house, but I'd only have around $19.99 plus a tank of fuel.

I only got stuck once. That was because I blowed the rear out on a steep hill. Not my fault. They brought me another one out and I finished the trip no problem th - 2023-04-02T144209.066.jpeg
