It's different here. Me and Brother will go out night hunting and routinely run across sounders with 20-30 piglets in them. There may only be 10 adults, but when we take the mature hogs, the babies will scatter. Give each one of those piglets a chance and they'll breed twice within a year.

    We're not hunting. We're killing.

I do share your morals about only taking what is needed from game animals though.

By saying the piglets scatter, I meant that hopefully they're too young to live without their mother and become coyote food.

I'm not sure on that but I suspect that hogs would disturb the eco system there given they're adaptability.
Most of northern and Central Minnesota is marshy and wooded .

I shoot several hogs every year when deer hunting. I'll process one or two a year. Taste as good as store bought. If the opportunity presents itself, I'll shoot more and let them lie. They are a nuisance here. Crop damage and ruttings tear the farming equipment up. I hate hogs, but love to eat'em.

My boy after we came across a nest.

I gave my rifle to a buddy and drew my pistol when I stepped on them in the tall grass.

Brother instantly started shooting because their momma was coming, and he could see her. 200 pounds of pissed off because I messed with her family.

After it was over, my buddy who was new to going out with us asked why I would hand him a rifle and draw a pistol.

It's because the rifle had a scope and I knew she was close and would be mad as hell. He wasn't happy about that.

    Then we shot her babies.
