Congradulations on your new journey. I just received a pre hire from Roehl. I am a new driver also and have chosen national OTR 11 on 3 off - Refer or van. What can I expect for issued trucks? What are you doing for sleep time temp control in cab? Can anyone sound off. Thank You.

For issued trucks it can be hit or miss. You might end up getting a newer truck with low miles and an APU or you could get an older truck with high miles and no APU. All of the trucks have bunk heaters though. For temperature control when I'm sleeping I'll idle the truck for about 30 minutes with the heat and the bunk heater on before i go to sleep if its really cold outside. I sleep in a sleeping bag and have a couple blankets on top of that and I stay warm all night. I haven't been in any hot weather yet though. So I can't chime in on that.

Hey everybody just curious went up to Marshfield on saturday to check out were I will be staying during training and stuff. Then went by Roehl's terminal in was just curious there a bunch of the normal red trucks, but curious there was a bunch of blue trucks and white ones. Are they from the blume side that they bought? there in good shape in dont appear to say anything bout being lease trucks. The color of a truck dont matter just kinda curious. Thanks

Hey Quick-- I drive a 7-year old Century that never breaks, except for little things that I just pick up parts for when I'm at a terminal. It has 500-plus miles on it and this last 2000 miles I've averaged 7.98 MPG with light loads. It's beat-up and ugly with no APU and they'll have to pry my fingers off the steering wheel to make me give it up. The mechanics tell me that it's unusual to have one that doesn't break.

I use a sleeping bag as well in the winter, and bought one of those 12-volt fans for twenty bucks for the summer. I only idle the truck to charge the batteries.

Its going ok, actually. I have never driven a rig before, but have driven a stick. Double clutching is new, and some of my old car habits have bitten me. Each time it gets better, so.....

I have some concern about the industry as a whole, and the horror stories of people used and thrown away by the company they work for do linger. What can you do in this economy? Local job markets are crap, so you take the leap and keep your eyes open.

If you are up here, I am easy to find. I am the only female in the school right now, I think....I certainly have not noticed any others in classes.

Say hello, and drop by with a mug - I brought my grinder and coffeemaker, and have a stock of the good stuff.
