Currently I have a Wilson 2000 on the mirror and a stock Cobra29.
However, I can’t get a good ground off the mirror without ground straps. It’s a Freightliner Coronado (new model)
Since I have to run ground straps I’m moving the antenna to the rear center of the cab and have a Hustler SCB with a tall shank to get it above the sleeper, and gonna put in a Galaxy 44 and run my power/ground from the battery.
Just gotta find time to do it. -
The Wilson 2000 should be a good antenna. The Cobra 29's are good radios. You mentioned that you ran ground straps, but how long are the straps? Depending on the straps and setup that you have, you might need to run a piece of wire from the ground section of the antenna, down the mirror mount tied off with zip ties. I know this may sound a bit odd to some but that will act as a ground plane.Phoenix Heavy Haul Thanks this.

I thought I repied to you Night.
I accidentally figured out I had enough contacts for a couple of them, amazingly they add up fast.
I have a couple WAS certs, and another case where I didn't know I had enough. Thanks to my kid, she put everything in order.
It is a good radio, I have two of them, the first one I paid $320 for it - the guy wanted 450 but it is all beat up. For $50 I got the one I use more often. it is a parts radio and I replaced the HV section with a Chinese voltage up converter. It is amazingly complex, foreigners like to make them complex. Still runs on 24 volts so when I use another Chinese voltage up-converter from 12 to 24 volts.
You should have good luck with the EFHW antenna, I had one up for a long time until someone with a drone hit it and brought it down. I kept the drone. -
I thought he was a fan, it seems like it - doesn't it?Diesel Dave Thanks this.
