It’s only gotten worse all the restrictions they put on getting licensed can Avoided if you pay the right schools obviously.. I wouldn’t hire 75% of current drivers to push a wheelbarrow nevermind 135,000 lbs down the freeway . Any nationality can be a great driver with proper training but training isn’t happening. With big companies feeding all these fly by night outfits and having no responsibility when they crash with the big companies trailer is just wrong.

Still makes me stop and think. Sometimes makes me a bit emotional over it even though I didn't know anyone involved. We are a nation of small town hockey players. Some of my best memories growing up was because I loved to play hockey.
I was going along 1 in sk on that day. Was actually listening to something interesting on cbc satellite (I normally can't stand their left wing programming but I do try and at least listen to the news once or twice a day). And they cut the broadcast to announce this. Kinda felt similar to 9/11.Albertaflatbed, Oxbow, BigHossVolvo and 3 others Thank this. -
Sadly all the big words and promises made in the wake of it amounted to nothing. Still idiots everywhere on the highways.
I'm not convinced it is a skill issue, its an attitude issue. Maybe if there were actual consequences for driving like an idiot (all road users, not just trucks) then maybe people would start taking it seriously.Albertaflatbed, BigHossVolvo, Flint1 and 5 others Thank this. -
Yea, we reject 98% of applications now, we also have a known list of “bypassing the system” driving schools to watch out for. The 3PL outside carries are just incredible bad these days, we have a full time gal, who tracks all the damage they do to our trailers lol. No choice but to use them tho, can’t get trucks or quality drivers.
9 months into working in the office, and my whole view of trucking and the world has changed; definitely not for the better. About ready to get into one of our daycabs, do my 10hrs Monday to Friday and speak to as few people as possible lol.
P.S email and “shared Google sheets” will be the end of us all.Magoo1968 and Albertaflatbed Thank this. -
Our safety department does a good job screening the illegitimate schools. Only a few our company recognizes.
12 years of working in the office and my view gets worse every week. Hard to stay positive with the progressive lack of professionalism shown by drivers, some who have driven for a decade or two. Let alone the newer drivers.
PS Running 3 screens for my set up and loving it. But I understand where your coming from.BigHossVolvo, Magoo1968 and Albertaflatbed Thank this. -

Not sure what your company pays drivers but in the gta the market is $25-27 a hr ,talked to a new canadian last week and the company he works for only pays $21 a hr and incorporated not pay roll . If you want good drivers to apply you have to pay a decent wage -
You mean like naming a company this, or using this as a companies slogan? Whichever the case maybe.

We pay 25-28hr, payroll, benefits, cell phone allowance, safety and OT where applicable. We get lots of experienced guys, who look great on paper. 10 runs in and they don’t give a single #### about anything, new guys 1-2 years experience, usually go to #### in 3 months. Honestly, it’s all a huge waste of time, and drives me nuts. We invest so much into our trucks, people, hiring, terminals; it just seems pointless. The turnover is 30%, and we have a solid core group of drivers that are amazing, but the rest do not care, and I honestly don’t think they ever will care, about absolutely anything.
triple monitors and the phone ringing off the hook lol, forget this. -
All it takes is 1 arsehole to muddy up the whole enterprise.
